John PoticnyJohn Poticny, 75, Peachtree City, died Jan. 24, 2009. He was a veteran of the United States Army. He was an avid golfer and loved spending time with family and friends. Myers, 87, Fayetteville, died Jan. 25, 2009. She was a member of Harps Crossing Baptist Church. Services were at the Carl J. Mowell chapel with the Rev. Dennis Watson officiating. Interment was at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, College Park. David Wayne Mitchell"David" Wayne Mitchell, 54, Brooks, died Jan. 27, 2009. He was a member of the Teamsters Union Local #728. Services were at the Carl J. Mowell chapel with the Rev. Durrell Tharpe and the Rev. Raymond Parker officiating. Wendell Clifton ReaganWendell Clifton Reagan, 78, Jonesboro, died Jan. 30, 2009. He was born in Knoxville, Tenn., and had served in the United States Air Force. He had been a quality inspector for Delta Air Lines. Survivors include his wife, Irma Gina Reagan, Jonesboro; children, and brothers and sisters. Carl J. Mowell & Son Funeral Home, Fayetteville, was in charge. Doris Christine OutlawDoris Christine Outlaw, 83, Peachtree City, died Feb. 1, 2009. She was an avid reader who loved to study history. Prior to her retirement, she served for 26 years as social worker for the City of New York, as a supervisor of adoptions. Horace JacksonHorace "Slick" Jackson, 68, Atlanta, formerly of Luthersville, died Jan. 10, 2009. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Emma Jackson of Luthersville, and his wife, Virginia Mann, whom he married in 1971. He was educated in the public schools in Meriwether County. He was a member of the Rocky Mount Bethel Baptist Church in Luthersville. He had worked for William L. Bonnell Company, the City of Atlanta, and Sears-Roebuck, where he retired. Billy PattersonBilly Patterson, 63, lifelong resident of Newnan, died Jan. 11, 2009. He was born Feb. 13, 1945. He was preceded in death by his parents, Prince and Louise Patterson, a brother, Shirley "Pat" Patterson, and a sister, Florice Patterson. He was a member of Bible Outreach Church, and an Evangelist of First Assembly of God in Hogansville. He was a manager of Ace Hardware on Turkey Creek Road since 1988. Gracie M. AlfordGracie M. Alford, 77, Tustin, Calif., formerly of Newnan, died Jan. 13, 2009. She was born April 15, 1931 in Carrollton, Ga. She was the second child of four children. She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy Morgan and Mrs. Curtis Morgan Beetles, and her husband, Gordon Lee Alford. She grew up in Newnan, and joined Burns Chapel where she raised her children. She moved to Washington, D. C. in 1969 and joined the Canaan Baptist Church, where she was on the Missionary Board. She was elected president of the Senior Citizens group in her apartment building, and enjoyed planning and organizing social events as well s food drives for the seniors. She was member of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed helping others and had gained respect of those whose lives she touched. Iris M. DuffeyIris M. Duffey, 66, Newnan, died Jan. 16, 2009. She was born June 26, 1942 in Scottsdale, Ga. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Bennett and Annie Amber Ogletree Murphy. She was an active member of Elim Baptist Church. She was a Language Arts teacher for many years at Western Elementary School and the O. P Evans Middle School. William CaldwellWilliam "Bill" Caldwell, 45, Sharpsburg, died Jan. 17, 2009. He was born Jan. 14, 1964 in Coweta County. He was preceded in death by his father, Harmon Manfred Caldwell, and a brother, James Harmon Caldwell. Memorial services were at the McKoon Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Terry Calhoun officiating. Avery Elizabeth JenkinsBaby Avery Elizabeth Jenkins died Jan. 14, 2009. Memorial services were at the Parrott Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Aaron Turner and the Rev. Karen Behm officiating. Mary Ann Bush CassanoMary Ann Bush Cassano, 74, Peachtree City, died Jan. 17. 2009. She was the eldest of three siblings. She was born in Wylam, Ala., but grew up in Atlanta. She attended St. Anthony's Catholic School, graduating from Atlanta's Brown High in 1952. She spent time in Indianapolis, and in Miami, where she furthered her career with the Federal Aviation Agency. She also worked in Germany and in Europe for nine years. Back in Atlanta in the 1990's she continued with the FAA and retired in 2004 with 42 years of service. She had a soprano voice and sang with various choral groups, most recently with the Southern Crescent Chorale. She loved animals. Frederick W. HulbertFrederick W. Hulbert, Peachtree City, died Jan. 18, 2009. He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church and was a Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus. A funeral Mass was at Holy Trinity Catholic Church with the Rev. Father John Paul officiating. Interment was at Oak Hill Cemetery, Newnan. Sharon Kay SpiveySharon Kay Spivey, 52, Fayetteville, died Jan. 19, 2009. She was preceded in death by her father, James E. "Buck" Thomas, and a brother, James Thomas Jr. Memorial services were at Harps Crossing Baptist Church with the Rev. Dennis Watson officiating. Marilyn Poople AlleyMarilyn Poople Alley, Riverdale, died Jan. 19, 2009. She was born July 12, 1934 in Fulton County. She was raised around Adair Park in Atlanta, and attended school with her future husband. Memorial services were at Southwest Christian Church with the Rev. Thom Miller and the Rev. Dr. Jimmy Donovan officiating. John Thomas Wright Jr.John Thomas Wright Jr., 67, Fayetteville, died Jan. 20, 2009. Survivors include his wife, Hiroko Wright, Fayetteville; a daughter, Tammy Wright, Atlanta; an aunt, Katsuko Shimada; and a cousin, Kazuo Shimada. Henry NelsonHenry Nelson, 85, Fayetteville, died Jan. 320, 2009. He was born in the Kenwood Community of Fayette County, the fourth of five children. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Neva Nelson, a daughter, Nona Nelson, and a great-granddaughter, Jocelyn Matthews. He was a veteran of the United States Army Air Corps in World War II, serving in England and France. He was a long-time employee of the Pioneer, Heddle and Reed Co., in East Point. He later worked for several different security firms prior to his retirement at 75. Ian Leslie KelleyIan Leslie Kelley, 16, Sharpsburg, died Jan. 3, 2009. Memorial services will be Monday, Jan. 19, 2009, at the Faith Bible Church, Sharpsburg. The Rev. Michael Fry, the Rev. Steve Martin, and the Rev. Hank Rast will officiate. Dallas Warren WilliamsDallas Warren Williams, 78, Newnan, died Jan. 3, 2009. He was born June 12, 1930 in Warm Springs, son of the late Riner Reese and Mary Ethel Anderson Williams. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force and a member of Macedonia Baptist Church. Services were at the Macedonia Baptist Church with the Rev. Searcy Jackson officiating. Interment was at the church cemetery. Alton H. McEachernThe Rev. Dr. Alton H. McEachern, 76, Sharpsburg, died Jan. 3, 2009. He was born Sept. 3, 1932 in Thomaston, son of the late Howard and Opal Oxford McEachern. He was a graduate of Mercer University, the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, the University of Glasgow in Scotland, and the Mansfield College in Oxford, England. He pastored many churches including those in Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, Virginia, and North Carolina. He was an active member of the Newnan community where he was a member of the Rotary Club. Helen Austin CallawayHelen Austin Callaway, Newnan, died Jan. 4, 2009. She was born July 14, 1929 in Newnan. He was preceded in death by his parents, R. Marie Cavender Hardy McPhersonMarie Cavender Hardy McPherson, 84, Brooks, died Jan. 3, 2009. She was born May 20, 1924 in Brooks, daughter of the late John Mitchell and Eddie Putman Cavender. She was member of the Brooks Baptist Church. Services were at the Warren Haisten Memorial chapel, Griffin. Interment was at Brooks Memorial Gardens. Earl Jenkins DunnEarl Jenkins Dunn, 86, Fayetteville, died Jan. 5, 2009. He was born Oct. 4, 1922, son of the late Fred Hambrick and Tessie Whatley Dunn. He was a longtime member of the Fellowship Sunday School Class at Fayetteville First United Methodist Church. Services were at the Fayetteville First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Mark Westmoreland, the Rev. Bob Partridge, and the Rev. Lowell Hale officiating. Interment was at Camp Memorial Park, Fayetteville. Emily FordEmily Ford, 82, Palmetto, died Jan. 5, 2009. She was a lifetime member of the South Fulton Hospital Auxiliary with 32 years of active service. She was "Club Mom" for the Atlanta Jugglers Association. She was a member of First Christian Church of Tyrone. Frances MurphyFrances Murphy, 81, Fayetteville, died Jan. 6, 2009. Services were at Liberty Baptist Church, Fayetteville, with the Rev. Dr. Randy Wood officiating. Interment was at Camp Memorial Park, Fayetteville. Ronald Lee Shaw JrRonald Lee Shaw Jr., 52, Rock Hill, S.C., died Jan. 6, 2009. He was preceded in death by his mother, Jacqueline J. Doby Shaw, and an infant son. Services were at the Carl J. Mowell chapel. Frederick Lewis KeyesFrederick Lewis Keyes, 95, Peachtree City, died Jan. 6, 2009. He was born in 1913 in Geneva, N.Y., son of the late Lewis Wheaton and Elizabeth Chapman Keyes. He attended grammar school in Geneva and then attended Choate and Princeton, graduating in 1936. He was a member of the Triangle Club. A sailor and a pilot, he flew the first air mail flight from Geneva to Buffalo, N.Y. in 1936. He was a veteran of the United States Army in World War II, retiring as a major in 1944. He worked for McKesson and Robbins until retiring. Gary Woodrow CongerGary Woodrow Conger, Tyrone, died Jan. 7, 2009. He was born July 27, 1937 in Fulton County. Services were at the Parrott Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Scott Pickering officiating. Interment was at Holly Hill Memorial Park, Fairburn. Carol V. MetcalfeThe Rev. Carol V. Metcalfe, 63, Jonesboro, died Jan. 7, 2009. She was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Alma Valcourt.
