Cathy Lorrainer Mendenhall McNaughtonCathy Lorraine Mendenhall McNaughton, 54, Sharpsburg, died Feb. 15, 2009. She was born July 30, 1954 in Fort Bragg, N. C. She worked with Delta Airlines for over 30 years and was an advocate for the March of Dimes. After her retirement, she recently accepted a position at Edward Jones. She was known for her outgoing personality and was loved by all who knew her. Services were at the First Presbyterian Church, Peachtree City with interment at East Lawn Memorial Park, McDonough. Gary Donnie TaylorGary Donnie Taylor, 64, Locust Grove, died Feb. 15, 2009. He was born in Troup County to the late Refus and Mattie Lee "Dolly" Taylor. Lavonia Thompson SmithLavonia Thompson Smith, 93, Moreland, died Feb. 16, 2009. She was born Aug. 8, 1915 in Coweta County, one of seven born to Joseph Samuel and Hattie Eunah Evans Thompson. She was the last surviving child. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey Levy Smith in 1993. She was a very progressive woman and embraced opportunities to improve her life and that of others for whom she felt responsible. She was the matriarch of First Baptist Church of Moreland where she was a member for 77 years. She taught Sunday School and the Sunbeams for 26 years. William Cadman HesterWilliam Cadman 'Bo" Hester, 70, Fayetteville, died Feb. 9, 2009. He was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Elizabeth Ann Tubbs. Norman Leslie NortonNorman Leslie Norton, 61, Fayetteville, died Feb. 11, 2009. He was a 43-year employee of Stein, Steel & Supply. Services were at the Overton Chapel, Fayetteville First Baptist Church, with the Rev. Esther Mae MoseleyEsther Mae "Essie" Moseley, Peachtree City, died Feb. 12, 2009. She was the second youngest of 13 children. She was preceded in death by her parents, Matthew and Pauline Baer, and her husband, Luke Moseley in 1992. They had met at American Airlines, where she was a stewardess and he was a pilot. They married in 1947. After graduation from Peoria High School in Peoria, Ill., she entered nursing school. In 1943 she entered the Army Air Corps as a flight nurse and served with the 349th Air Evacuation Unit and the 803rd Air Evacuation Squadron. She was a member of the Peachtree City First Presbyterian Church. Robert ForemanRobert "Bob" Foreman, 82, Fayette County, died Feb. 14, 2009. He was a World War Il veteran serving with both the United States Air Force and the United States Marines. He retired with 28 years of service with Piedmont Airlines as a mechanic and a pilot. He was an avid bowler and loved to fish. Services were at the Carl J. Mowell chapel. Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Grace Foreman, Fayette County; a daughter, Robin and Steve Dent, Fayette County; grandsons, Michael and Patrick Dent, both of McDonough; and a sister, Julie Ann Yaist,, Stow, Ohio. Gracen Brooke OglesbyGracen Brooke Oglesby, age one, Fayetteville, died Feb. 14, 2009. A celebration of life will be this Friday, Feb. 20, 2009 at the Harp's Crossing Baptist Church at 7 p.m. Pastor Dennis Watson will officiate. Survivors include her parents, Rob and Wendy Oglesby, Fayetteville; brother, Justus Oglesby, Fayetteville; a sister, Madison Oglesby; grandparents, Bob and Gloria Oglesby, Kernersville, N.C., and Thad and Sandy Reavis, Westfield, N.C.; great-grandparents, John and Glennie Oglesby, Kathleen Hayes CuretonKathleen Hayes Cureton, 95, Newnan, died Feb. 6, 2009. She was preceded in death by her parents, Judson and L'angel David Hayes, and her husband, Fred Cureton. She was born June 30, 1913 in Mansfield, Ga. She was a member of Newnan First United Methodist Church and was retired with more than 30 years of teaching in Coweta County. John Nicholson Waters Jr.John Nicholson "Nick" Waters Jr., died Feb. 8, 2009. He was born Aug. 31, 1944 in Augusta. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Nicholson and Bessie Kathryn Avera Waters, and his wife, Beverly Williams Waters. He was a man who loved the land and had made his life's work in the timber business and raising cattle. He was a member of the Haralson United Methodist Church. Margaret A. RamseyMargaret A. Ramsey, 82, Brooks, formerly of Morrow, died Jan. 23, 2009. She was preceded in death by her parents, Cecil A. and Lucy Jane Montgomery Abbott. She taught school and was a librarian for the Atlanta Public Schools and Morrow Elementary, where she retired in 1982. She was very active in the United Methodist Women, holding several local offices and was past district president of the College Park district. She was also an active member and held offices of Delta Kappa Gamma. Donald Bruce MartinDonald Bruce Martin, 67, Peachtree City, died Feb. 1, 2009. He was a native of Bay Ridge Brooklyn and Long Island, N.Y. He was a graduate of St. John's University, Queens, N.Y., and attended St. John's Law School. He enjoyed a long airline career spanning 40 years. He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Peachtree City, and a fourth degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council 8081. A funeral mass was at Holy Trinity Catholic Church with the Rev.Father John Walsh as celebrant. Dorothy E. SkeltonDorothy E. Skelton, 85, Peachtree City, died Feb. 1, 2009. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence R. Skelton, whom she married in 1946. He was a retired veteran of the United States Army. Services were at St. Andrew's in-the-Pines Episcopal Church with interment at Westminster Memorial Gardens, Peachtree City. David Alton KellerDavid Alton Keller, Peachtree City, died Feb. 4, 2009. He was born on Nov. 10, 1932 in Hinton, W. Va. He was preceded in death by his mother, Nellie Ruth Keller, his father, Robert R. "Bob" Keller Sr., brothers, Robert R. "Sonny" Keller Jr., and Karl Swope Keller, and his beloved wife, Johnnie Ruth Davis Keller. He was a 37-year resident of Peachtree City, and a charter member of the Peachtree City First Baptist Church. He was retired from Sam Flax Art and Design in Atlanta in 2003. He was a talented artist and musician and inspired those closest to him with his creative spirit. Erma Ruth JonesErma Ruth Jones, 92, Fayetteville, died Feb. 4, 2009. She was a graduate of Starr High School. Services were at the Carl J. Mowell chapel with interment at Westminster Memorial Gardens, Peachtree City. Survivors include her husband, Frank W. Jones Jr., Fayetteville; a daughter, Linda and George S. Walden, Jonesboro; granddaughters, Kelly Walden, Dunwoody and Kim Brundage, Sugar Hill; a great-granddaughter, Mallory S. Augusta, S.C., formerly of Fayette County, died Feb. 4, 2009. He was born Oct. 11, 1926 in Haralson, son of Wylie C. and Roxanna Milner Carter. He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, and five sisters. He was a POW in World War II, and was a past Master of Masonic Lodge F&AM 590, Hapeville. Services were at the Carl J. Mowell chapel with the Rev. Jim Willis and the Rev. Dan Houston officiating. Interment was at Camp Memorial Park, Fayetteville. H. Ray McCainH. Ray McCain, 92, Tyrone, died Feb. 5, 2009. He was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Mary Davis McCain. He had worked for 30 years at Southern Railroad as a car-man. He was a deacon and active member of Welcome All-Forest Hills Baptist Church, College Park and later Cabaniss Baptist Church, Forsyth. Services were at the Carmichael-Hemperley Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Sam Orr officiating. Interment was at Cabaniss Baptist Church, Forsyth. Jack Willard Parks IIIJack Willard Parks III, 59, Fayetteville, died Feb. 6, 2009. He was retired from the United States Army, and had served in Vietnam. He was the owner of Jack Parks Homes. His great love was the Boy Scouts where he was a Scout Master. He enjoyed helping mentor the boys toward their Eagle Scout rank. He loved the outdoors. Graveside services were at Camp Memorial Park, Fayetteville, with the Rev. Glenn Stringham officiating. Shirley Ann NicholsShirley Ann Nichols, Fayetteville, died Feb. 7, 2009. She was born Aug. 31, 1938 in Laurens County, S.C. Private memorial services will be held at a later date. Albert Louis Folden Sr.Albert Louis Folden Sr., 86, Fayetteville, formerly of Warm Springs, died Feb. 7, 2009. He was born Sept. 29, 1922 in Knox County, Tenn., son of Glen Floyd and Eula Clowers Folden. He was retired as a salesman for Siemens Energy and Automation after 30 years of service. He was a veteran of the United States Army in World War II. He served in the Sixth U. S. Cavalry and was a recipient of the Purple Heart. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Durand, Ga, the IBEW Local #613, the Georgia Cattleman's Association, the Greenville Masonic Lodge #321 F&AM, and was a Shriner. He was a former member and chairman of the Meriwether County Board of Commissioners. He was a member of the Sixth U. S. Cavalry Association, and served on the board of directors of the Sixth Cavalry Museum at Ft. Oglethorpe, Ga. Ewell GermanyEwell Germany, 75, Fayetteville, died Feb. 8, 2009. Mary Gladys Wingo CookMary Gladys Wingo Cook, 81, Braselton, formerly of Franklin, died Jan. 18, 2009. She was born May 20, 1927 in Hogansville. She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl Wingo and Mary Edna Wingo Wilson, her husband, Demas Cook, a brother, Carl Wingo Jr., and a grandson, Jimbo Sewell. She was preceded in death by her mother, Patricia Couch, father, Larry C. Wooten, and sister, Lisa Wooten Steadham. Roy C. SmithRoy C Smith, 77, Fairburn, died Jan. 25, 2009. He was born July 16, 1931 in Fulton County, and was a life-long native of Fairburn. He had served in Korea. He enjoyed coaching Little League and was retired from Atlanta Gas Light Company. Services were at the Parrott Funeral Home chapel with interment at Holly Hill Memorial Park, Fairburn. Thomas MossThomas Moss, Newnan, died Jan. 28, 2009. He was born May 16, 1929. He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Bessie Kate Moss, his wife, Selena Jones Moss, brothers, George Washington, John Andrew, and Henry and Richard Moss, and sisters, Cleola, Willia A. and Mattie Kate. He was a member of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church where he was a member of the United Methodist Men and served on the Board of Trustees. He had established a weekly Bible Study Ministry at his home which was attended by family and neighbors for three years. Vertis Arnold LittleVertis Arnold Little, 65, Newnan, died Jan. 29, 2009. She was born Nov. 11, 1943, daughter of Virgus Arnold and Emma Hendricks. She was raised by her mother and loving stepfather, Roosevelt Hendricks. She was also preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. Charlie Little, in 1992. They had married on Oct. 19, 1983, and her son, Gregory Robert Arnold. He was born in 1965 and was killed in an automobile accident in 2003. She was graduate of Central High School in 1961. She was a member of Newnan Chapel United Methodist Church, a member of the Interdenominational Minister's Wives and Minister's Widows and a member of Just Between Girlfriends Social Club. She was retired from Newnan Hospital after 19 years of service. She loved to shop and travel. James StrozierJames Strozier, Newnan, died Jan. 29, 2009. He was born on July 10, 1931 in Troup County. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Strozier, his wife, Mary Emily Bridges, whom he married March 15, 1952, brothers, William, Robert Jr. and Raymond Strozier, and sisters, Jeanette Rudley, and Mattie Mae Riggins. He was a sergeant in the United States Army, a Squad Leader in Company D of the First Armored 701st Armored Infantry Battalion. He received the Combat Infantryman Badge and the Korean Service ribbon in November, 1952. He was retired from the James Rivers Corporation, and had worked as a mechanic until his health failed. Services were at the Mt. Sinai Baptist Church. Clifford Leland AndrewsClifford Leland Andrews, 80, Newnan, died Jan. 30, 2009. He was born March 13, 1928 to the late Morpheus Newton Andrews and Bessie Mae Andrews Thompson. He was a veteran of the United States Navy and served in World War II. Services were at the McKoon Funeral Home chapel with Pastor Mary Peters officiating. Interment was at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Newnan. Inez Harbin WoodInez "Miss Inez" Harbin Wood, 92, Newnan, died Jan. 30, 2009 She was born in Atlanta on Oct. 11, 1916, the second child of Albert M. and Agnes Cuneo Harbin. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew James Wood, whom she married in 1934, brothers, Albert, Frank and Lawrence Harbin, and a sister, Doris Comer. She was the valedictorian of Russell High School in East Point and attended Cox College. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Newnan for seven decades and often played the piano for the worship served prelude. She taught a youth Sunday School Class and kept a nursery for many years. She was a longtime member of the Newnan-Coweta Art Association and was a gifted artist. She hosted the radio program "Memory Melodies" on WCOH-AM. She had a lifelong interest in history and literature and enjoyed reading and foreign travel. She and her husband owned the Buick and American Motors dealerships in Newnan from 1956 into the 1960's. Services were at the McKoon Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Gary Parrish and Allan Rainwater officiating. Interment was at Oak Hill Cemetery, Newnan. |
