Ed MartinEd Martin, 72, Newnan, died March 6,2009. He was born in Pittsburg, son of the late Elias and Anna Mudrak Martin. He was employed with World Airways for over 40 years and served in the United States air Force. Services were at Christ the King Church, Sharpsburg, with the Rev. Father David Epps officiating. Survivors include his wife, Cynthia Martin; children, Jessie Jennings, Lisa Martin, and Matt Martin, all from the San Francisco Bay area, Steve Martin, Settle, DeAnn DeSoto, Newnan, David DeSoto, Sterling, Va.; 13 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. William Delma MorrowWilliam Delma Morrow, 59, Whitesburg, died March 7, 2009. He was born June 22, 1949 in Newnan. He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie D. and Frances Keith Morrow, and a son, Nathan D. Morrow. He served in the Army 173rd Air Brigade during Vietnam and was awarded the Purple Heart. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, The American Legion and the Order of the Purple Cross. Frankie Lee GoodroeFrankie Lee Goodroe, Newnan, died March 7, 2009. He was born Jan. 2, 1941 in Newnan, son of he late Joseph Elton and Ruby Lassetter Goodroe. Caleb Allen RedmonCaleb Allen Redmon, 16 months, Senoia, died March 9, 2009. The family expresses its gratitude to the entire community and special thanks to Congressman Lynn Westmoreland and to Kathy Pappas and staff. Charlene Williams LasseterCharlene Williams Lassetter, 82, Sharpsburg, died March 10, 2009. She was born March 3, 1927 in Thorsby, Ala. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Bessie Garrick Williams, and her husband, H. Lamar Lassetter. She was graduated summa cum laude from Piedmont College in Demorest, Ga. She was a homemaker spending her time raising her daughters before working as a medical transcriptionist at Coweta General Hospital. She was an active member of Cokes Chapel United Methodist Church, serving as the choir director, pianist, and organist. She was the longtime treasurer of the United Methodist Women. Roger A. SmithRoger A. Smith, 67, a lifelong resident of Senoia, died March 11, 2009. He was born June 11, 1941 in Coweta County. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alsie and Rosa Todd Smith, and siblings, Hoyt Smith, and Jenelle Cowan. C. Leroy HowardC. Leroy Howard, 86, Newnan, died March 13,2009. He was born Oct. 21, 1922 in Newnan. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Susie Mae Camp Howard, and sisters, Mamie H. William C. SpradlinWilliam C. "Bill" Spradlin, 84, Turin, died March 13, 2009. He was born Feb. 27, 1925 in Senoia. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl A. and Dallie McLean Spradlin, and sisters, Dorothy Huckaby, Brooks, and Barbara Morris, Hampton. He was a veteran of the United States Navy in World War II, a graduate of the University of Georgia, a retired poultry hatchery manager with Hubbard Farms, Inc, a Master Gardner, and a deacon of Turin Baptist Church. He will be remembered as a loving and considerate person who was always willing to lend a helping hand. Raymond Wendell MuseRaymond Wendell Muse, 74, Tyrone, died Feb. 21, 2009. He was born Feb. 16, 1935. He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond Benjamin and Dana Itaska Muse, and his wife, Martha Sandra Yates, whom he married in 1967. He attended Carrollton High School and West Georgia College. He served in the United States Army from 1956 to 1962. He worked for Eastern Air Lines where he worked on the ramp for almost 28 years. During his life, he was a fireman, coach, hunting and fishing buddy, military policeman, carpenter, problem solver and friend. Sara Jane LambSara Jane Lamb, 67, Riverdale, formerly of Fayetteville, died Feb. 21, 2009. She was a retired major in the United States Air Force, and was a registered nurse. Edna Sproles FowlerEdna Sproles Fowler, 90, Union City, formerly of Cowpens, S.C., died Feb. 27, 2009. She was preceded in death by husbands, Clarence Chapman Sproles, and James Pickney Fowler, and a granddaughter, Amy Giles. She was a member of Heatherwood Baptist Church where she attended the Adult Co-Ed Bible Class. Services were at the Carl J. Mowell chapel with Pastor Tom Daugherty officiating. Interment was at Sunset Memorial Park, Spartanburg, S.C. Charles MarchmanCharles "Freddy" Marchman, 59 Fayetteville, died Feb. 27, 2009 after a year-long battle with cancer. She was born June 13, 1928 in Greenville, Ala., to the late Benjamin and Lena Gilbert. Russell Heelan Jr.Russell "Russ" Heelan Jr., 72, Senoia, died Feb. 19, 2009. He was preceded in death by his wife, Flo Heelan. He was a 1956 graduate of Rose Hulman Institute with an engineering degree. He was a member of the Sigma Nu fraternity. He had worked with GM Delco Electronics, and also with NASA with the guidance systems for the Apollo space program He was retired from Delta Airlines as an electrical engineer servicing guidance and auto pilot systems. Bernice Wright GunbyBernice Wright Gunby, 96, Newnan, died Feb. 19, 2009. She was born Dec. 11, 1912 in Decatur, Ga. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Edwin Gunby, and a son, James Neal Gunby, M.D. Willie L. AllenWillie L. Allen, 94, the Sargent community, died Feb. 18, 2009. He was born Dec. 27, 1914 in Coweta County. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Eugenia Allen, and a son, Tommy L. Jimmie Ruth WatkinsJimmie Ruth Watkins, Newnan, died Feb. 19, 2009. She was born July 12, 1943 in Newnan. She was preceded in death by her father, Jim Richard Hall. She had joined The Burns United Methodist Church at an early age, and was graduated from Central High School in1961. She was employed at Playtex, Inc. for a number of years, and then worked for 32 years at the Coweta County School system. Services were at the Burns Chapel United Methodist Church with the Rev. Crawford Paggett officiating. Interment was at Eastview Cemetery. Robert RainesRobert "Terry" Raines, 60, Newnan, died Feb. 25, 2009. He was born May 3, 1948 in Coweta County. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert C. Raines. He was a veteran of the United States Army and served in Vietnam. He attended Oak Lawn Baptist Church and had worked at the Coweta County Water Department. Kevin Grant CruzeKevin Grant Cruze, 26, Peachtree City, died Feb. 13, 2009. Herbert Edward Thrailkill Jr.Herbert Edward Thrailkill Jr., 61, Fayetteville, died on Feb. 14, 2009. He was a veteran of the United States Navy. He was the vice president of Atlas Fence Company, Inc., and Atlas Enterprises, Inc. Richard A. BrownRichard A. "Pop" Brown, 61, Tyrone, formerly of Chantilly, Va., died Feb. 15,2009. He was born Feb. 6, 1948 in Beaver Falls, Pa. He was preceded in death by his father, Harry C. "Brownie" Brown. He was a 1965 graduate of Beaver Fall High School and a 1974 graduate of Geneva College. He was veteran of the United States Army and served with the 9th Infantry Division during the Vietnam conflict. He was awarded two purple heart medals for injuries he received in 1969. In 2003 he retired from the Department of Defense, Inspector General's Office, after working for over 30 years as a project manager-auditor. Oswald Woodson ShelnuttOswald Woodson "O. W." "Bud" Shelnutt, 92, Fayetteville, died Feb. 15, 2009. He had served in the United States Army Air Corps in World War II as a radio operator-gunner on a B17. On his 53rd mission, his plane was shot down over Germany. He worked as a route supervisor with Atlanta Dairies for 39 years. He was active in all Masonic orders and was Past Master of Forest Park #399 and the Daylight Lodge #125 F&AM. He was a member of Fayetteville First United Methodist Church. Services were at the Carl J. Mowell chapel with the Rev. Fred Shelnutt , the Rev. Dr. David Campbell and Joe Suttles officiating. Interment was at Camp Memorial Park, Fayetteville. Kristin Astrid ThamesKristin Astrid Thames, 47, Fayetteville, died Feb. 17, 2009. She was preceded in death by her husband, Horace Eugene Thames, and her father, Alf Jonsson. Althea Ruth TaylorAlthea Ruth Taylor, Peachtree City, died Feb. 18, 2009. She was preceded in death by her husband, John D. Taylor Sr., and a daughter, Jean Gill. George R. CookGeorge R. Cook, Peachtree City, died Feb. 19, 2009. He was a veteran of the United States Army Air Corps in World War II. He was a member of Heritage Church in Fayetteville, the Gideon's International and the Braelinn Country Club, where he was an avid golfer. Services were at the Carl J. Mowell chapel with the Rev. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Virginia Smoak. Emily PhillipsEmily Phillips, 74, Franklin, died on Feb. 11,2009. She was born March 18, 1934 in Coweta County. She was preceded in death by her parents, William J. James Benjamin Hutchinson Jr.James Benjamin "Jimmy" Hutchinson Jr., Senoia, died Feb. 13, 2009. He was born Sept. 30, 1935 in Griffin, son of the late James B. and Kathleen Estes Hutchinson. He was a graduate of Newnan High School and attended the University of Georgia where he was a member of the Kappa Alpha Order. In 1956, after the sudden death of his father, he moved back to his hometown of Senoia and took over the family business, Hutchinson Hardware. He worked here for over 50 years. He was always active in the community: he was a member of Senoia United Methodist Church, serving as the chair of the church's board of administration; was the mayor of Senoia and at that time was the youngest mayor in the State of Georgia. He was a founding member of the Senoia Downtown Development Authority, a member and past president of the Senoia Lions Club, a member of the Senoia Cemetery Committee, and was the first "Young Man of the Year" in Coweta County. Robert R. Stewart Jr.Robert "Bob" R. Stewart Jr., Sharpsburg, died Feb. 13, 2009. He was born Sept. 26, 1935 in Newnan, son of the late Robert and Bert Stewart. He worked at Lockheed Martin Marietta as an engineer, and was a member of Cokes Chapel United Methodist Church. He was an honorary member of the Turin Masonic Lodge. He founded and operated a convenience store in Sharpsburg that was known as "Rapid Roberts." Services were at the Stewart Farm with the Rev. John Hagan officiating. Interment was at the Cokes Chapel UMC Cemetery. Douglas J. WhitakerDouglas J. Whitaker, 65, Newnan, died Feb. 14, 2009. He was born April 12, 1943 to Carl V. and Everill Thompson Whitaker. |
