Inez Harbin Wood

Inez "Miss Inez" Harbin Wood, 92, Newnan, died Jan. 30, 2009 She was born in Atlanta on Oct. 11, 1916, the second child of Albert M. and Agnes Cuneo Harbin. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew James Wood, whom she married in 1934, brothers, Albert, Frank and Lawrence Harbin, and a sister, Doris Comer. She was the valedictorian of Russell High School in East Point and attended Cox College. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Newnan for seven decades and often played the piano for the worship served prelude. She taught a youth Sunday School Class and kept a nursery for many years. She was a longtime member of the Newnan-Coweta Art Association and was a gifted artist. She hosted the radio program "Memory Melodies" on WCOH-AM. She had a lifelong interest in history and literature and enjoyed reading and foreign travel. She and her husband owned the Buick and American Motors dealerships in Newnan from 1956 into the 1960's. Services were at the McKoon Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Gary Parrish and Allan Rainwater officiating. Interment was at Oak Hill Cemetery, Newnan.

Survivors include sons J. Robert and Gaye Wood, Marietta, R. Barry and Gwen Wood, Augusta, A. Gary and Lynne Wood, Fayetteville, and Alan D. and Kay Wood, Newnan; grandchildren, David Wood, Gregory Wood, and Stephanie and Jacob Pellock, Atlanta, Katrina Wood, Marietta, Allison Wood, Denver, Matthew Wood, Fayetteville, Ansley Wood, Atlanta, Shelley and Jon Clifford, Newnan; great-grandchildren, Ashton and Noah Pellock, Atlanta, and Colin Clifford, Newnan; sisters, Agnes Martin, Forest Park, Ruth Smith, Morrow; and seven nephews and five nieces. Memorial donations may be given to the First United Methodist Church of Newnan, 33 Greenville St., Newnan, GA 30263. McKoon Funeral Home, Newnan, was in charge.
