John Lamar Cochran Jr.

John Lamar Cochran Jr., 86, LCDR, United States Navy, retired, Peachtree City, died Dec. 8, 2006. He was born June 10, 1920 in Fulton County. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister. He was graduated from Georgia Tech in 1942. A commissioned officer in the Navy, he served in active duty from 1942 to 1945, fighting in the Battle of the Coral Sea and Guadalcanal, and surviving the sinking of the U.S.S. Helena. He served in the Naval Reserve until 1962 retiring as a lieutenant commander. Services were at the Carmichael-Hemperley chapel with the Rev. Stephen L. Soulen officiating. Interment will follow at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. Survivors include his wife, Joann L. Cochran, Peachtree City; a daughter, Sherry and Barry Sloan, Fayetteville; granddaughters, Amanda Santaniello, Decatur, Cara Dwyer, Chandler, Ariz.; a nephew, John Williams Jr.; and a niece, Beth Watzlavick. Memorial donations may be sent to the Alzheimer's Association, 1925 Century Blvd., Ste. 10, Atlanta GA 30345. Carmichael-Hemperley Funeral Home, Peachtree City, was in charge.
