He was the son of Walter D. and Mattie Ola Trammell Farr. He was preceded in death by a son, Thomas Emery Farr in July, 2002. He was a 1930 graduate of Fayette County High School. He was an active member of Hopewell United Methodist Church until moving to Peachtree City in 1966. Here he was instrumental in building the First Presbyterian Church of Peachtree City. He was always active in banking both in Tyrone and Peachtree City. He was most adept at working with people and with assisting people in furthering their ideas to fruition. He was one of the principal organizers of the Coweta-Fayette Electric Membership Corp., a charter member of the Fayette County Kiwanis, and was on the Fayette County Board of Education for 10 years. He was a member of the Tyrone Masonic Lodge F&AM #644. Services were at the First Presbyterian Church, Peachtree City, with the Rev. Dr. David Miller, the Rev. Ed Nelson, and the Rev. Dr. Don Smith officiating. Interment was at Westminster Memorial Gardens, Peachtree City. She was born July 3, 1916 in Canton and reared in Cherokee County near Buffington. She was preceded in death by her husband, Odith, in 1952, and her parents, John and Jessie Garrison. She was the last surviving sibling of her family, and had lived in Fayette County since 1945. She and her family introduced poultry farming to Fayette County. She ran the cafeteria at Fayette County High School, and purchased a local restaurant, Starr's Restaurant, located where Melear's Barbecue is now. She finished her career in the 1980's as cafeteria manager at Huddleston Elementary School. Services were at the Carl J. Mowell chapel with the Rev. Harold Lowery officiating. Interment was at Fayetteville City Cemetery. Originally from Smithfield, Pa., he made his home in College Park when he began a career with Eastern Airlines following World War II. He was a pilot with Eastern Airlines for 33 years. During his airline career he flew the DC-3 on display at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D. C., as well as the M-404, CV-240, 340, and 440, all series of Constellations, the B-727 and ended with flights on the wide body L-1011. He enjoyed camping, fishing and trips across country pulling his camper. Services were at the First Baptist Church of Peachtree City with the Rev. Dr. Steve Bingham officiating. Thomas ThorneThomas "Bud" Thorne, 93, Peachtree City, died Sept. 25, 2006. He was born Sep. 30, 1912 in Boston. He was the son of Archille and Susan McCluskey Thorne. He was reared in Ashland and was a 50-year resident of Holliston, Mass. He was preceded in death by his wife, Beulah Kane Thorne, a brother, Richard "Randy" Thorne, and a sister, Marie Thorne. He was a veteran of the United States Navy in World War II and served on the U.S.S. Terry where he fought in the South Pacific including the Battle of Iwo Jima. He retired from General Electric with 50 years of service. He was an avid gardener, a bridge player, and active in the Holliston Senior Center, and a loyal Boston Red Sox fan. He was an original cohort member of the Framingham Heart Study from 1948 until his death. Services were at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Holliston, Mass with Interment at St. Stephen's Cemetery, Framingham, Mass. Survivors include a brother, Robert E. He was born Feb. 10, 1921 in Wilmington, Del., son of Italian immigrants. He was preceded in death by a son, Richard Cavalli, Pace, Fla. He worked as a welder in the United States Navy shipyard in World War II. In 1948 he moved his family to East Point. He was involved here in citizen focus groups working on a transportation project that became MARTA. In the 1960s his extended love of sports into part time positions as a reporter of high school games for The Atlanta Journal and The Suburban Reporter. He converted his welding skills into an artistic hobby in the form of ornamental iron pieces including fence gates, tables and lamps. He was retired from the M. E. department at Georgia Tech in 1983. Services were at the Overton Chapel of the First Baptist Church, Fayetteville, with the Rev. Glenn Stringham officiating. Interment was at Holly Hill Memorial Park, Fairburn. He moved with his family at an early age to West Exeter, N. Y. He served with the United States Army air corps in World War II, in the Pacific. After the war he married and they lived in West Exeter until he sold his plumbing supply business, BGM Supply in Utica, N. Y. in 1979. He retired to Hartwell, Ga., where he lived for 25 years. He was member of the Hartwell Golf Club and an avid hunter, fisherman, and gardener. They moved to Peachtree City in 2004. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl J. Mowell Sr., a daughter and son-in-law, Eva and T. Welton Smith, and a grandson, Phil Brown. Services were at the Carl J. Mowell chapel with the Rev. Bill Priester officiating. Interment was at Holly Hill, Fairburn. Survivors include a son, C. J. and Faye Mowell Jr., Fayetteville; a daughter, Georgia M. and Donnie Brown, Sharpsburg; grandchildren, Judy and Glenn Ratliff, Don and Jackie Brown, Becky and David Arnall, Beth and Scott Axelberg, Ferrell and Kellie Mowell, and David and April Mowell; and 19 great-grandchildren.
