Walter Floy Farr Sr., 94, died Sept. 29, 2006. He was born May 20, 1912 in the community of Stop, near Tyrone. He was the son of Walter D. and Mattie Ola Trammell Farr. He was preceded in death by a son, Thomas Emery Farr in July, 2002. He was a 1930 graduate of Fayette County High School. He was an active member of Hopewell United Methodist Church until moving to Peachtree City in 1966. Here he was instrumental in building the First Presbyterian Church of Peachtree City. He was always active in banking both in Tyrone and Peachtree City. He was most adept at working with people and with assisting people in furthering their ideas to fruition. He was one of the principal organizers of the Coweta-Fayette Electric Membership Corp., a charter member of the Fayette County Kiwanis, and was on the Fayette County Board of Education for 10 years. He was a member of the Tyrone Masonic Lodge F&AM #644. Services were at the First Presbyterian Church, Peachtree City, with the Rev. Dr. David Miller, the Rev. Ed Nelson, and the Rev. Dr. Don Smith officiating. Interment was at Westminster Memorial Gardens, Peachtree City. Serving as pallbearers were Tony Armstrong, Fred Brown, Ed Chapman, Hollis Harris, Ralph Jones, Hugh Smith, Bob Truitt, Doug Warner, and Mike Whiteside. Survivors include his wife, Hilda Bruce Loyd Farr, Peachtree City; a son, Dr. Walter Floy "Sonny" and Pat Farr Jr., Santa Fe, N. M. ; a daughter-in-law, Wendie Farr, Peachtree City; grandchildren, Matthew and Mandi Wood, and Robby and Whitney Freeman; and a great-granddaughter, Finley Jane Freeman.
