William Harold Smith

William Harold Smith, 89, Fayetteville, died Sept. 19, 2006. He was born Sept. 23, 1916 in Campbell County. He had served in the United States Navy in World War II. He retired in 1979 after 34 years with the United States Postal Service. He was an active member of the Fayetteville First United Methodist Church, and the Fellowship Sunday School Class. He enjoyed membership in the Fayetteville Masonic Lodge F& AM #711, the Fayetteville Kiwanis Club, National Association of Retired Federal Employees, and the local American Legion. Services were at the Fayetteville First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Mark Westmoreland officiating. Interment was at the Fayetteville city Cemetery. Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Charlotte Smith, Fayetteville; a daughter, Mary Ann and Lanny Cauthen, Fayetteville; grandchildren, Laura and Rick Dorsey, Fayetteville, and Jon and Jodie Cauthen, Sharpsburg; a brother, Joe Smith, Rico; sisters, Estelle and Bill Rhodes, The Villages, Fla., Betty Melear, and Lucy and Bill Long, all of Rico, and Virginia and Phil Harper, Wisconsin; and a sister-in-law, Kathleen Smith, Rico. Memorial donations may be given to the Fayetteville First United Methodist Church Building Fund, or the Alzheimer's Association. Carl J. Mowell & Son Funeral Home, Fayetteville, was in charge.
