Mary Lee Porter, 90, Fayetteville, died Sept. 28, 2006. She was born July 3, 1916 in Canton and reared in Cherokee County near Buffington. She was preceded in death by her husband, Odith, in 1952, and her parents, John and Jessie Garrison. She was the last surviving sibling of her family, and had lived in Fayette County since 1945. She and her family introduced poultry farming to Fayette County. She ran the cafeteria at Fayette County High School, and purchased a local restaurant, Starr's Restaurant, located where Melear's Barbecue is now. She finished her career in the 1980's as cafeteria manager at Huddleston Elementary School. Services were at the Carl J. Mowell chapel with the Rev. Harold Lowery officiating. Interment was at Fayetteville City Cemetery. Survivors include sons, Kenneth Porter, Fayetteville, and Randall and Liz Porter, Woodstock; a daughter, Carolene and Hudon Thames, Fayetteville; 12 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson. Memorial donations may be made to Southwest Christian Care. Carl J. Mowell & Son Funeral Home, Fayetteville, was in charge. login to post comments |
