Thomas "Bud" Thorne, 93, Peachtree City, died Sept. 25, 2006. He was born Sep. 30, 1912 in Boston. He was the son of Archille and Susan McCluskey Thorne. He was reared in Ashland and was a 50-year resident of Holliston, Mass. He was preceded in death by his wife, Beulah Kane Thorne, a brother, Richard "Randy" Thorne, and a sister, Marie Thorne. He was a veteran of the United States Navy in World War II and served on the U.S.S. Terry where he fought in the South Pacific including the Battle of Iwo Jima. He retired from General Electric with 50 years of service. He was an avid gardener, a bridge player, and active in the Holliston Senior Center, and a loyal Boston Red Sox fan. He was an original cohort member of the Framingham Heart Study from 1948 until his death. Services were at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Holliston, Mass with Interment at St. Stephen's Cemetery, Framingham, Mass. Survivors include a brother, Robert E. Thorne, Ashland; a sister, Barbra Thorne Fredericks, La Habra, Calif.; a son, Brent and Kathy Thorne, Northville, Mich.: a daughter, Karen and Jim Crowley, Peachtree City; granddaughters, Trisha, Katie, Elisa, and Karen; great-grandchildren, Noah, Joshua, Jimmy, and Nora; and 26 nieces and nephews. Memorial donations may be made to the Friends of the Framingham Heart Study, 73 Mt. Wayte Avenue, Framingham, MA 01702. Carl J. Mowell & Son Funeral Home, Peachtree City, was in charge of local arrangements.
