Here today gone tomorrow

Liecom Company was having a tough time finding skilled workers. For months they searched for a graphic designer and then they discovered Mary. Mary recently finished her degree graduating at the top of her class. She was conscientious, hard working and looked forward to starting at Liecom. Mary received several offers from other companies, but she liked what the recruiter told her about Liecom. The recruiter promised her a signing bonus, rapid acceleration, a team work environment and great opportunities for personal and professional development. However, after two weeks on the job her opinion changed. On several occasions she was left back to answer the phones while the rest of the department went out to lunch together. One morning, Barry, her supervisor, chewed her out in front of her co-workers. A few days later she was turned down for a training course because she was a ,,new employee.” Mary, once bright and motivated now had taken on a different attitude. At the end of the month Mary turned in her resignation telling Barry she had gotten another job offer at higher pay somewhere else.

'The Market' in Fayetteville
By CHUCK GRIFFITH
Religion Columnist

Bands singing songs that would make a bathroom graffiti writer blush, swimsuit competitions, fights on street corners, pajama parties, provocative dress along with lewd dancing and other questionable activities. Am I describing Daytona Beach during Spring Break? Are these the reasons Atlanta residents don't want to host Freak-Nik? Would you say these are the things that happen in “undesirable” areas with people who lack standards? In reality these are just some of the activities that have been reported to happen among our teenagers at “The Market” in Fayetteville.

Cancer clusters: It's time for a survey
By AMY RILEY
One Citizen's Opinion

More than a few people in Fayette County have expressed concern about what seems to them to be a higher than normal rate of cancer among local residents. In the interest of opening the topic for public dialogue, I began a process this past week of gathering information from our local health department, the state Department of Human Resources—Division of Public Health, and the National Cancer Institute.

Hooters flap: Is this fowl play?
BILLY MURPHY
Laugh Lines

I may be naive. I may be dumb. I may even be a boob, but I just don't understand all the opposition to having a Hooters restaurant in Fayetteville.

Letters to the Editor

The Market's 'beach party' ads show club's true intent

Having raised two teenagers in Fayetteville, I appreciate the need for a protected place where teens can “hang out.” When first reading about The Market (Fayetteville's youth club) I was not in favor of its location (there's not enough parking and it is too near private homes), but loved the concept.

Hooters opponents should try different approach, like Jesus

Judging from the comments on the recent zoning hearing, the majority of residents of Fayette County are opposed to the locating of a Hooters in Fayetteville. Not!

'Lord, send us more Hooters opportunities!'

I am a pastor of a church here in Fayetteville, and recently I have been awakened to an attitude of many churches and Christians that alarms me. This attitude that these people have seems to be one of creating or preserving some kind of Christian utopia, where we stand up for God and keep the sinners out. We petition at homosexual rallies and abortion clinics and tell lies about our God.

PTC needs lessons about 1st Amendment rights

I am ecstatic beyond words that Webb, Stuckey and Lindsey LLC has decided to drop the lawsuit against you and [letter writer Steve] Brown. I applaud your decision to stand fast on the principles that this country was founded on. Freedom to say what we think is right, and the free flow of ideas that allow for debate of public issues is the cornerstone of our country. This right must be fought for at all costs, because if we lose that fundamental right, we have lost all.

Please slow down in PTC residential subdivisions

I live at the corner of Shirewood Park and Kedron Drive in Peachtree City. On Tuesday night, July 11, around 10:30 p.m. I heard a big boom outside my bedroom wall and told my husband that it sounded like someone hit our house. We went outside and saw one of the worst car accidents we have ever seen.

More hypocrites will be in church on Sundays than in Hooters on Fridays

The conduct of my fellow Christians constantly amazes me.

Moral crusaders, why stop at Hooters?

In their long crusade against trite villains everywhere, religious extremists have now turned on the Hooters Restaurant and its plan to open up shop right here in Fayette County. Holding a 30-minute prayer vigil outside of a recent city council meeting, churchgoers prayed against the moral tyrant of attractive women, orange shorts, and hot wings.

Kick out Southern Baptists as well

Surely the Southern Baptists are not concerned about the “degradation” of women. They use God's word to subjugate women to second-class citizenry. They will not allow women pastors, espouse that women should be subservient and obedient to their husbands, etc. At least Hooters is a choice by women to work there.
