'Peter
and the Wolf' comes to local libraries By MICHAEL BOYLAN Tchaikovsky's Peter and the Wolf is one of the most beloved pieces of classical music in history. Each character has his or her own individual amusic and the piece has enjoyed success as an animated short as well as a ballet. Now, Fayette Community Theatre Inc. will present Peter and the Wolf as a children's play. It's the story of a boy who hunts a wolf with the help of his animal friends. The play is written by Sheila Smolenski and features many children who have acted with FCT in the past. The children, ages ranging from 7-15, have been rehearsing since the beginning of the summer and are having a good time so far. The play will be presented as part of the Summer Reading Programs at the Peachtree City Library, the Fayette County Public Library and the Tyrone Library. The production is part of FCT's Student Director Intern Program. Recent Starr's Mill High School graduate Aron Hall is the first participant. The prgram is open to high school seniors or college degree candidates who are aspiring to a career in theater arts. Hall is headed to the Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York City this fall and has proven his theater mettle in Fayette County. Hall was involved in several productions while at Starr's Mill, including Oklahoma, Crazy For You, and The Elephant Man. He also was an intern for the Starr's Mill Intro to Drama class, under Stuart Fail. On top of his school activities, Hall was a member of the sketch comedy troop Creatures of Habit and did several productions with the House Red Theatre Company, including the recent Farmer-Butz Wedding. The cast of Peter and the Wolf includes Evan Baron as Peter, Olivia cato as Sonja, Tyler Crafton and Liz Ocheltree as Ivan and Boris the Hunters, Philip Davis as Pavlov the Dog, Lane Eisenburg as Olga the Duck, Kelly Jackson as Naasha the Bird, Amanda Kulaga as Bronia, Hannah Smith as Catrina the Cat, Matthew Perello as Grandfather and Shane Quamme as the Wolf. The show will be presented at the Peachtree City Library July 20 at 9:30 and 11 a.m., the Tyrone library July 21 at 10:30 a.m. and the Fayette County Public Library July 27 at 10 and 11:30 a.m.
