Elfora Elizabeth Osborne Gardner, Fayetteville, died Sept. 12, 2007. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kermit Carson Gardner, two brothers, and three sisters. She was an active supporter of the Republican Party, had been Republican of the Year, and a Republican delegate representing Georgia. She was a supporter of Billy Graham Ministries for over 50 years. Virginia Weldon McElroy

Virginia Weldon McElroy, 92, Fayetteville, died Sept. 20, 2007. She was born Sept. 10, 1915 in Woolsey, Fayette County, and was delivered by her father, a country doctor. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. John B. and Ethel Hodnett Weldon, her husband of 53 years, whom she married in 1940, Clark Howell McElroy Sr., a daughter, Eleanor Hodnett McElroy Jackson, and grandsons, Christopher Weldon Windham, and Clark Howell McElroy III. She was a stay-at-home mother to four children, living in the same house for over 60 years. She was the first Girl Scout Troup leader in Fayette County, and a faithful member of Fayetteville First United Methodist Church. She was loved so dearly that a grandson and three great-granddaughters bear her name. She was always interested in the world around her and was a member of The Study Club in Atlanta, traveling to Europe, Hawaii, and throughout the United States. She read her newspaper daily and worked the crossword puzzle and Jumble. She was famous for her caramel cakes and homemade biscuits. Services were at the Fayetteville First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Mark Westmoreland officiating. Interment was at Camp Memorial Cemetery, Fayetteville. Albert Sterling

Albert Sterling, Fayetteville, died Sept. 14, 2007. He was born and raised in Wayne County, Miss. He was a graduate of Waynesboro Vocational High School, Alcorn State University, and Roosevelt University. He later attended Covington Theological Seminary, Rossville, Ga., and received a doctorate degree in theology and counseling. He worked for the Chicago Board of Education as a teacher, vice principal, and principal for 38 years, retiring in 1998. He also worked at the Amos Alonzo Stagg Elementary School for five years. Cortland Rice Lowe

Cortland Rice Lowe, 80, Peachtree City, died Sept 1, 2007. He was born Sept. 30, 1926 in Albany, Ga., son of John Harvey and Anne Lowe. He was preceded in death by his wife, Joan "Jodi" Lowe, 1999, and brothers, William Lowe, Charles Ferguson, and John Ferguson. He was graduated from Georgia Tech in 1950 with a degree in Civil Engineering. He served in the United States Navy during the Korean War. He was retired from the W.R. Grace & Company after a 34 year career. He went on to work as a real estate auctioneer on St. George Island and established Lowe Realty in Tallahassee, Fla., in 1990. Michael E. Dunn

Michael "Mike" E. Dunn, 73, Fayetteville, died Sept. 6, 2007. He was born July 27, 1934, son of Charles Winston and Marie Ann Townley Dunn. He was graduated from Russell High School, East Point, and helped organize Russell High reunion and luncheons. He had served in the United States Coast Guard. He worked in the paint industry and later for Tri-City Realty and Prudential Realty. He was a member of the Ben Hill Masonic Lodge, and the Fayetteville First United Methodist Church. He loved coaching girls church league softball and they won several first place trophies. He loved people and tried to put a smile on their faces. Services were at the Fayetteville First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Mark Westmoreland and the Rev. Bob Partridge officiating. Interment was at Camp Memorial Park, Fayetteville. Bennie Reid Morris Sr.

Bennie Reid Morris Sr., 77, Fayetteville, died Sept. 7, 2007. He was raised in Atlanta. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elisha and Annie Mae Morris, and a sister, Christine Spratlin. He served in the United States Army in World War II, and was stationed in Paris. He was an entrepreneur, owning five day-care centers until 1990. He lobbied diligently for child care laws and rights. In 1970 he moved his family to Fayetteville and his children were all graduated from the Fayette County schools. He was active in the Booster Club and the Fayette County Optimist Club for many years. He had great character and dignity, and was highly thought of by his peers and community. A memorial service is today, September 12, at the Carl J. Mowell chapel at 4 p.m. The Rev. Survivors include her son, Judah Truitt, Peachtree City; mother, Patricia Houston, Peachtree City; stepfather, Luther Houston, Knoxville, Tenn.; father, Arnett Phillips, Miami, Fla.; brothers, Joshua Houston, and Reuben Houston, both of Peachtree City, and Carlos Ramon Houston, Decatur; maternal grandmother, Earlene Jones, Miami, Fla.; uncles, Morris Jones, San Francisco, Calif., and Joseph Jones, Miami; aunts, Mavis Clayton, Smyrna, Janice Jackson, Linda Jones, and Shelia Phillips, all of Miami; and a niece, Jasmine Houston. Carl J. Mowell & Son Funeral Home, Peachtree City, was in charge.
