Reba Spivey MathewsReba Spivey Mathews, 89, Fayetteville, died June 4, 2007. She was born Sept.14, 1917 in Coffee County and had lived in Fayetteville since 1996. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Mathews, and a son, Kenneth Mathews,formerly of Cochran. She had been a nurse's aid in the Aiken County Hospital, South Carolina, before moving to New York in 1958. She continued at that capacity at the Forest Hills Hospital in Queens, N.Y. She was graduated from Queens Beauty Institute, Inc. School of Cosmetology with honors in 1963 and the Academy of Beauty in Atlanta in 1967. She worked as a beautician until her retirement. After graduating from high school, she moved to Atlanta and worked for Continental Insurance. In addition to being a homemaker, she ran her own income tax service in Hapeville for many years. Ronald Herman JanssenThe Rev. Dr. Ronald Herman Janssen, 60, Fayetteville, died May 30, 2007. He was born Oct. 10, 1946 in Buckley, Ill. He died after a 45-year battle with diabetes. He maintained a kidney transplant for 25 years, persevering through other complications of diabetes, never losing faith or hope. He earned a B.A. at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, graduating Phi Beta Kappa. He attended Concordia Theological Seminary, Springfield, Ill., where he earned a master of divinity in 1972. Sara Elizabeth JonesSara Elizabeth Jones, 94, Fayetteville, died May 30, 2007. She was born July 29, 1912 in Vidalia, daughter of G. W. and Anne Seymore Hamilton. She was preceded in death by her husband, Millard F. Jones. Britt, 86, Brooks, died June 1, 2007. He was born June 10, 1920 in Spalding County. He had served in the United States Marine Corps in World War II, receiving a Purple Heart. Maurie Claire EubanksMaurie Claire Eubanks, 64, Brooks, died May 21, 2007. He was born Sept. 29, 1942 in Dade County, Fla. He was preceded in death by a sister, Ross Schultz. He was a veteran of the United States Army. He was an avid Street Rodder enthusiast and enjoyed coaching youth baseball and football with the Optimist Club. He spent his life building everything from homes to malls to hospitals. Services were at the Carl J. Mowell chapel with Chaplain Kimberly Hardin officiating. Interment was at Lakeview Baptist Church Cemetery, Tifton, Ga. He was born March 6, 1929 in Marion County, Ill., the only son of the late G. Cecil and Opal Eddings Clifton. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Kathleen. He was a retired Delta Air Lines captain, former owner and developer of The Links Golf Course in Fayette County, and served on the Fayetteville City Council for eight years. He was an entrepreneur, a philanthropist, a teacher, and an investor in oil fields. He was a member of the Fayette Presbyterian Church. He had requested that his body be donated to Emory University School of Medicine for research. Memorial services were at the Carl J. Mowell chapel. He was born April 18, 1920 in Greene County, Ill. He was a veteran of the United States Navy. A private family memorial service will be at a later time. Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Barbara Mehrhoff; a son, Tom and Carol Mehrhoff, Albuquerque, N.M.; a daughter, Susan and Ron White, Fayetteville; and grandsons, Garhett White, and Justin White. He was born Aug. 19, 1945 to Edward M. and Janie Kathleen Turner in Moultrie. He was graduated from Maury High School in Norfolk, Va. in 1963. He served in the United States Army for two years in Ethiopia during the Vietnam War. He received an MBA from the University of Georgia in 1971 and began a lifelong career in the insurance business. His family lived up and down the East coast and to LaGrange, Ga. For the last 10 years, he owned and operated L. P. Baker Insurance Agency, Tyrone. Jimmy CrawfordJimmy Crawford, 62, Fayetteville, died May 26, 2007. He was born July 12, 1944, in College Park. He was preceded in death by his father, James Harrison Crawford Sr. He was graduated from Clemson University in 1966. He was employed with Eastern Airlines for 25 years, retiring as a 727 captain.
