Lindsey Hand Barron, 83, Newnan, died June 16, 2007. He was born Dec. 16,1923 in Greenville, S. C., son of Zeddie Pleasant and Opal Hand Barron. He was also preceded in death by siblings, Zeddie P. Barron Jr., Catharine Barron Edwards, and a cousin, Harry Elvin Barron. He was a graduate of Northwestern Midshipmen School.

He was the Executive Officer on LST 587 in World War II in the Pacific Theater. He was a deacon emeritus of the First Baptist Church of Newnan, past chairman of the deacons at the church. He was past president of Kiwanis Club of Newnan, past chairman of the Newnan-Coweta YMCA board of directors, past president of the Newnan-Coweta Chamber of Commerce, past president of Newnan-Coweta board of Realtors, past director of Georgia Association of Realtors, past president of the Retail Merchants of Newnan, past president of Newnan-Coweta United Way, 1960 "Man of the Year", Newnan-Coweta County, past director of First National Bank, Newnan, past director of Newnan Hospital, past director of Newnan Country Club, 1975 Kiwanis Man of the Half Century, Newnan, in 1994, one of the founders of Wesley Woods of Newnan-Peachtree City retirement community, director of The Foundation of Wesley Woods, Inc., Citizen of the Year, 1996, Newnan-Coweta Chamber of Commerce, a member of Residential Care Facility for the elderly Authority of Coweta County, and the 2001 vice chairman of the Coweta County Water & Sewer Authority.

Services were at the First Baptist Church of Newnan with the Rev. Jimmy Patterson, and the Rev. Dr. Gene Tyre officiating. Interment was at Oak Hill Cemetery, Newnan. Survivors include his wife, Genet Heery Barron, Newnan; sons, Thomas Willis "Chip" and Margaret Barron, Frank Heery and Vicki Barron, all of Newnan; grandchildren, Catherine and Cooper Lindsey Barron Pope, Atlanta, Thomas Willis and Kristin Barron Jr., Newnan, John Tallaferro Gaines Barron, Nashville, and Frank Heery "Jess" Baron Jr., Auburn, Ala.; great-grandchildren, Mark Cooper Lindsey Pope, Charles MacKenzie Pope; step-grandchildren, Jenni and Robert Matthew Blackburn, and James Victor and Kimberly Ivery, all of Newnan; step-great-grandchildren, Robert Matthew Blackburn Jr., and Julie Victoria Blackburn. Memorial contributions may be made to Wesley Woods of Newnan-Peachtree City, 2280 N. Hwy. 29, Newnan, GA 30265 or the First Baptist Church of Newnan, 15 West Washington Street, Newnan, GA 30263.

McKoon Funeral Home, Newnan, was in charge.
