The tens of thousands of City of Mcintosh and other Coweta cars that will be passing through PTC by 2015 will create major noise problems, health problems, and will significantly lower our PTC property values. Traffic noise will interfere with our sleep, conversation, and other neighborhood pursuits. AASHTO highway engineering studies have shown about 2% of us are exposed to traffic noise at a level which affects health. That means 1 in 50 PTC citizens will be less healthy just because of the noise!

Peachtree City pedestrian safety will be greatly diminished over the next decade. Approximately 6,000 pedestrians are killed each year in the U.S. by automobiles and 55% of these fatalities occurred on residential neighborhood streets! For every pedestrian killed by a car, another 15 were seriously injured. Will your child be one of these? Speed is a major factor determining whether a pedestrian will be killed or injured by an automobile. The City of Mcintosh and other Coweta drivers will be in a HURRY to get through PTC. A pedestrian is nine times more likely to die if struck by a car traveling at 30 mph compared 20 mph. Other factors contributing to the high pedestrian accident rate on neighborhood streets include lack of adequate sidewalks, bike lanes, and crossings. Are our golf cart crossings to become life-and-death matches between our golf carts and Coweta drivers that are cutting through here on their way to some other location?

Swift and company does interesting work. I applaud them for furnishing thousands of factory jobs sorely needed in the USA. The only trouble is that most of those jobs go to people from other countries, namely, Mexico. Currently those jobs pay about $11.50 per hour ($10.50 just before the raid last week). The company was notified of the raid coming but still couldn't clear up most of the illegals without totally shutting down the plant. This is just one of several Swift Plants, but in this one they manage to do something with 12,000 cattle hoofs per day. Also, about 3,000,000 pounds of beef. I don't know what they do with the 3000 tails, the 6000 horns, 6000 eyeballs, 3000 hides, 60,000 pounds of guts and waste, and maybe 35,000 teeth---daily.

Not Sure What To Make of This

A conversation came up today between a friend and I regarding spanking children. I stated that I don't believe in "beating" a child, but I think that spanking is okay, and he replied that any parent who spanks a child will go to jail.

It will take a four lane road to support the traffic on TDK in a few years. So what should be done: one could be, don't build it at all, not enough of us in PTC need to go to that area in Coweta County; the other thing is to build a two-lane road now with right away only secured for two more lanes later, and a FOUR lane bridge---much cheaper than adding two more lanes to a bridge later. Of course, what our council wants to do is build a two-lane road and a two lane bridge. Hang the later costs! Now you know if there are only two lanes there and four are needed, they will be built.

The poster mudcat is bragging about a Direct PAC victory in the last elections. I have a hard time figuring out what he’s cheering about.

I was looking at Coweta County's long range transportation plan. Unless I am missing something I do not see anything about Coweta funding any new roads to connect to TDK. Nothing??? Why are we Fayette County and Peachtree City Funding and obtaining funds for the road on our side? If I read this correctly the developers must be footing the tab for the road on the Coweta side.

Today I've read that Bob Barr has moved from the Republican Party to become a Libertarian. He reportedly cites the loss of personal privacy, i.e. patriot act, and the GOP's spending frenzy as why he is no longer a Republican.

I heard that some people want TDK to be four lanes now ? OK, how about this. We make it a four lane TOLL ROAD ? That way Fayette County/PTC gets re-paid for something that we're probably going to have to do anyway.

Allow me to represent the uninformed masses on the TDK issue. Truth is, I don't know much about it but I want to have an informed position. I can think of two sides to this issue and I'm sure someone will help me with a third. First, I am of the opinion that we here in PTC do not OWN 74 or access to the interstate. If that were the case and counties widened roads based on how it would only help their tax base than we would be in quite a mess on 74 north of Fayette in Fulton County. Second, why do some on the Council want the extension? Is it to help out the Crosstown shopping center? I just can't understand why PTC needs the extension. I am admittedly uninformed and need guidance on this issue. Also, don't give me the “politicians are in the developers pockets” thing...I don't buy it (not without proof anyway).

In my career I had the opportunity to come in contact with city commissions and committees in another state. For several years I sat on a committe that reported directly to a city council.

Councilman Judi Rutherford is an ogre. I couldn’t believe how rude she was at the council’s meeting. She yelled at this poor senior citizen who did nothing more than laugh at one of Rutherford’s poor excuses for pursuing TDK. She needs to go! Now!
