What can we expect to pay for this Christmas without knowing it?

Last year at Christmas, the Capt. Mike Pruitt family gathered around their tree and Capt. Pruitt opened a nice new Alabama Football jacket, a gift from his wife Mrs. Capt. Mike Pruitt.

Being the thoughtful wife she was she included in the box her credit card receipt reflecting her purchase on ebay should he wish to return the gift.

But shrewd Capt. Pruitt had a better idea. Keep the football jacket and bill the county for the gift. A smart plan if a sharp finance officer had not caught on to the plan and nixed the deal recognizing that taxpayer dollars should not pay for employee Christmas gifts.

Capt. Pruitt had to bite the bullet and let his wife pay for his Christmas gift but not before lashing out at the finance employees and Commissioners who called him on it.

This year the finance officer that caught the scam is gone, the commissioners who were trying to keep a watchful eye have, for now, been defeated, and Capt. Pruitt and his wife are free to have as merry a Christmas as the county can afford.

Finance employees should watch December and January expenditures closely.

Now, I don't claim to have all of the facts, either, but there was some guy who kept trying to get the commissioners to look into something about the previous director of the county finance department. They kept giving him the brush-off but he kept insisting that the director had engaged in some financial impropriety. The commissioners kept saying that they had looked into the matter and determined that there was no basis to take action but that could mean a few different things that I won't suggest here.

My point is that you may have facts that have been slanted by people with an axe to grind. As for the new director, how about you give him/her a chance. People here are willing to give the new commissioners a chance. Doesn't the new director of finance deserve the same?

The finance officer is gone, but not before he uncovered some "suspicious" transactions under the current commission. There was a lot of information that wasn't leaked to the "average Joe". Why do you think he left town so suddenly? There was more time spent in "special session" (behind closed doors meetings) than public commission meetings. SSB, do you know where can I get a copy of the minutes for those meetings - or are there any? Do you know who's been keeping an eye on D & W since then? (I heard the new finance person was "hand-picked")...
So, SSB, we can all be thankful that we have a new Commission that will take office Jan. 1.

I think every undercover cop should have a nice alotment for clothes, especially starter jacket type clothes. I also think it should come from the millions in confiscated drug money - not little league security teams for travel. Typically, drug dealers have a little cash to throw around. If this is your biggest problem in life - you have it made.

Maybe when one of those dealers rents the house next door to you - like the one they busted in smokerise - you will have a nicely dressed cop playing the part of the dealer that can get him out of there... then you will think it's money well spent. Watch for stray bullets- and damage from the "cart path kids".

Then again - Maimi Vice was just a TV show. Maybe our guys in jeans and t shirts driving a ford focus can convince the heavy dealers they are big time drug lords...yea, that's the ticket.

Is that all you've got???! That's an old story and I heard it was $750.00... not $500.00! Wow! Those NARCS really know how to dress, don't they? I didn't know it was a BAMA Jacket... you must have the "insider's info" hotline!
Now let's tell all the drug dealers what he's wearing so he'll be an easy target for everyone... Come on... give us some more info... what vehicle does he drive? Where does he live? What's his home phone number? What are his children's names?
By all means, it's a free country and you can slander anyone at will via this blog... but this Christmas while you are gathered around your tree, remember the ones who are out there trying to make this a safer place for your family to live.

I guess SSB would call 911 is someone broke in and stole his Christmas tree though.

It would be ironic if a guy in dirty jeans and a T shirt showed up driving a Ford Escort with three missing hubcaps carrying a sling shot with a golf pencil and some old napkins to take the report on wouldn't it?

God help us all.

How rude. If you read all the details of this story, you would understand that undercover drug officers do not go around with the word "Sheriff" in big letters on their jackets. The explanation given by Mrs. Pruitt was perfectly logical. Do you have any idea how much law enforcement officers spend from their own pockets for necessary uniform items and "tools of the trade" not furnished by their employers or paid for by taxpayers? What's the matter, did they take your drugs from you? Get a life.

A $500 jacket? That's hilarious. "Had to have it for undercover". Wouldn't possibly consider buying a $30 hooded sweatshirt. Almost as funny as when the t-tops on the Vette blew off on the roadway. Can you says kids in the candy jar ?

It's a shame that on Christmas eve you were sitting all alone at your lonely computer writing such bitter statements... What a sad situation that you are in now... you need to take responsibility for your own actions and stop blaming others!
