Bob Barr is now a Libertarian

Richard Hobbs's picture

Today I've read that Bob Barr has moved from the Republican Party to become a Libertarian. He reportedly cites the loss of personal privacy, i.e. patriot act, and the GOP's spending frenzy as why he is no longer a Republican.

I dare say I might agree whole heartedly with what many might say about the Republican Party. We have lost the direction we were on and thats sad.

Since Barr has a problem with certain specific examples of why the Republicans no longer deserve his accolades, does he now contend the Libertarians fully agree with his positions as well.

The Libertarians are in principle, very attractive, but in practice they are sadly limited. I have real problems with their positions on foreign policy, or the lack thereof.

So what say you? Will 2008 be Hillary's for the taking or will a true Republican come forward and take the reigns?

I for one am unaware of any that deserve my vote at this time. George Bush pretended to be a conservative which is why he was elected. Bush Sr. won because he was Reagan's VP.

Who will take on the Beast?

Like Ronald Reagan said about the Democratic Party.... It left him. He didn't leave it. Now, the Republican Party is leaving the Republicans. Worse, they are acting like Democrats and shooting themselves in the foot, which could open the door to Pres. Rodham. I think that she has a good shot at winning the Democratic primary, and if her opponents learned anything from Vince Foster, they better be looking over their shoulders.

And you're right on the mark with your comments. There's a huge voter block that has no where to turn now. The Republicans have lost folks like you and I in there successful attempts at impersonating Democrats. Like I've been saying about the Democrats....why the anger? The Republicans are morphing into Democrats........

Who will take on the beast? What does that mean to you? I know what I think it means and you are wrong. It means to you a democratic candidate and especially one particular candidate--Hillary Clinton.
If after observing the republican administration and congress, and corporate malfeasance for the past six years you can still call the democratic opposition the beast, you are sick.
I know you people worry under democrats about the costs of welfare, healthcare, wages, illegals being returned, and corporations being taxed, but the world won't end to throw out the bums and change horses for awhile. I won't even talk about a disastrous war and oil costs. The debt---well it's as bad as the war situation.
In fact a change has to be done or ruination is sure to happen! We need to try them all in congressional hearings and write the history books for the last six years. So as not to make so many mistakes again.

The Libertarian Party will certainly gain strength and membership over the next 2 years, Unfortunately, not enough to win, but certainly enough to make a difference in many races - even President. Those who doubt that need to look up the % of the vote Ross Perot received that put the first Clinton in the White House.

Unfortunately, those who become new Libertarians will be mostly old Republicans who are fed up with their spending and lack of security on the border (and I am probably one).

Combine that with a Hillary/Barak ticket in 2008 and you have women, blacks and others who have never before voted coming out of the woodwork for the Dem's dream team. Disaster - sure, but no Republican - even modified ones like McCain and Guliani could beat Hillary/Barak.

What else do you think this beauty pagent for Barak Obama is all about?

You Republicans are using Hillary as a means to scare each other and raise money and more power to you for it. But I am convinced that the Democrats are not going to nominate her. Since, as you pointed out in another blog, it is illegal to gamble in Georgia, I wish to propose a deal with you: If Hillary gets the nomination, I'll give an extra $100 to my church the next week after the convention and if she doesn't then you give an extra $100 to yours. Or I'll give to yours and you give to mine, or you can set another amount, you decide. AND... everybody can continue to bash her, that's not part of the deal! Acceptable deal for you Mr. Hobbs? And yes, I realize that if I lose we all do but, even so, it ain't gonna happen.

Meaningless bet with Hobbs, so now say something meaningful.

If not Hillary - then who?

And who for the Repub's and why?

What do you want to happen in 2008?
