Rutherford Needs to Go

In my career I had the opportunity to come in contact with city commissions and committees in another state. For several years I sat on a committe that reported directly to a city council. Never did I ever experierence a city council member or a commission member lecturing a member of the audience. Judi's reaction to the situation was totally unacceptable and highly unprofessional. Her comments indicate how far out of touch she is with "her" community. They also indicate that she is not worthy of or qualified to be a city council member. City Council members, as are all elected government officials, are held to a higher standard of conduct and behavior. Criticism and disaggreement comes with the territory. If Judi does not want to hear or experience negative reactions from the audience she needs to either grow up or better yet, resign from office. Apparently she can not take the "heat in the kitchen." Judi's treatment of "her" constituents was despicable.

I'm sorry - should sneering and carrying on loud conversations in the audience be allowed in Congress? No, I think you'd have the Capitol Police giving you the Cynthia McKinney treatment.

Let's not gloss over the fact that the mayor had to repeatedly bang his gavel to get Mr. Last Mayor to stop talking after he decided to launch a personal assault against Doug Warner? What, civility, you say? I believe the environment was set when the public thought this is a town hall like in the northeast.

Guess what? Representative government speaks for you when you vote. When they don't speak for you anymore, you vote them out the next time they are up for election. Just because someone tells you to stick it from the dais doesn't mean you kick them out. Ya know what? Robert's Rules of Order would tell you that the audience doesn't GET a say unless the chair allows it. So, guess what? Those "grumblers" were in the WRONG!

But hey, let's give everybody their 15 minutes to say whatever they want.

Thanks Judi - glad you told the whiners what-for. If you don't like what Judi did, vote, move or shut up.

Political correctness has to go. If you don't like the results, throw your hat into the ring and see how far you go.

Allow me to inform you that Mr. Chairman (Mayor) allowed it, as you should recall if you were there. He allowed opening the meeting to the public for discussion. So don’t make statements that are not factual.

Judi-ann did do some good during her outburst when she told the people…”if they think they can do better then run for office”…I plan on doing just that for the next election…so thank you Judi. I’m coming after your Council Seat.

I did vote her in and I hope I get the satisfaction of helping to run her out.

Once the chair opens the meeting for public discussion, you can do that until it's time for a motion or vote. At that point, the talking is over. The issue at hand happened after the vote.

Sorry if I didn't make that clearer.

Judi is a rude Yankee. Get use to it or vote her off council. She is a liberal and most of the time she can not hear because she has her fire hat over her ears. But what you see is what you get. I would rather have that then someone that can never tell the truth. I expect she would do a better job as a town meeting member in a small New England town where she could count the paper clips that are used each day. She is very smart but somtimes can't see the big picture. But when you look who is sitting up there she looks really good. Says what she thinks, is not a rubber stamp for the Mayor, and can think 100 times faster then Boone ever thought of doing. Well I guess that is not really saying much. He does come up with the old saying "I agree with the Mayor" as often as he says "I have another one". As for Stuart and Cindy well ? Come on folks about 50 of you really care what is going on each day in the city and only run your mouths when if has a direct impact on you. You don't come to council meetings, you don't vote, care how bad your city looks over the last 5 years, yell about your school tax, demand the county give you the service you pay your county tax for and could care less about anything except "YOURSELF".

What is more interesting or should I say disturbing was Judi –ann’s outburst at the people that put her in the position through an election.

After the vote, those in attendance at the meeting expressed vocal dissatisfaction with the vote. Mrs. Rutherford proceeded to “chastise and scold the voters for not understanding what a “tough job” it is being up here and having to make these tough decisions.

Well guess what Judi…I have three comments:

1). You should have known what you were getting into before you choose to run for political office.
2). Not to worry about the pressure, because will do our best to vote you off the Council next chance we get!
3). If you can’t stand the heat …get out of the kitchen.

Judi-ann had no business to scold the people in attendance for voicing dissatisfaction with the vote. What was interesting about this display is that no one from the general public in attendance directed his or her dissatisfaction directly at Mrs. Rutherford. However, she seemed so stressed…that she lashed out at the public (the voters). She was so upset her face was red and she removed her glasses…great body language Judi-ann!

Bottom line Judi-ann is that you owe those voters in attendance at the meeting last night an apology for your rudeness. A public official has to learn how to take criticism. If you can’t (which was well displayed last evening)…you need to resign from office immediately.

OK, I wasn't at the meeting, but I have not read one post where anyone said the mayor intervened to get council member Rutherford off of the senior citizen in the audience. Can someone who was there comment on that?

Was the mayor still at the meeting, or was he on his way to the Y-Knot already?

He was planning his next 6:00 PM Council Meeting!!!

I would like for Harold to explain that maneuver to the Citizens. Why is it that this hurry up…last minute meeting was scheduled for 6:00 and not the normal 7:00 as all other meetings?

Will the next meeting where "mud cat" (screen name) claims that Judi-ann is going to apologize be scheduled for 6:00 or will it be a t 5:00?

How stupid does Harold take us for…scheduling a meeting to ram his agenda through when most people couldn’t get home in time to attend his newly schedule meeting time!

Paul you are so correct. How can anyone let alone a city council, elected official treat anyone the way she did last evening.
She needs to apologize to not just the Senior Citizen but all those in attendance and the entire City for that matter.
I was in attendance and I took offence, I got up and walked out. I am sorry, I do not stand for anyone talking to me in that manner. I was raised in the North, we do not act in that fashion, there is no excuse.
I would be thrown out on my face if I talked to my clients that way!
She should be removed from office if she does not apologize no censor needed.

Rudeness is not a reason for a recall election - obviously if you have attended any city council meetings.

How about you (SandiSue) and others who complain constantly running for office next time? Judi and Stuart are up and you could go after either one. Go for it.

You were correct with your title. Dump Judi
How do you know I or someone close to me has not run for office? Hmm... look through the records.
Anyhow, don't worry anyone who runs and has any experience or is not support by Direct Pac will be run into the ground. We all know who Direct Pac represents at least I hope we are all being educated. We also know you all do not want experience in council. Oh no they may know the ropes and not be pushed around. Oh and by the way I am still waiting for Direct Pac to claim in kind contributions. Still have not seen that accounted for. Look at most state, federal campaigns and Pacs and you will see in kind contributions all over the place. Yes a hosted house party or a cook out is an in kind contribution. Why did Direct Pac not report theirs? I know a lot of you bloggers are or were in Direct Pac.
Please stop trying to fool us all with your excuses for those elected officials supported by Direct Pac as was Judi. Oh and yes we will remember at election time.

You are right, just have to find someone that is willing to give up cocktail hour to attend city council meetings. O yea I forgot, some did not do that after being elected.

Tennant did seem under the influence of something, but can't remember any others. Do you?

Of course you are correct - Peachtree City people giving up anything (cocktails, trips, cars, dogs, TV, big houses) to serve on city council is a real stretch.

Dan Tennant and Harold Logsdon are probably the only two politicans who would accept a bottle of cheap wine in lieu of currency for payment. Harold is probably responsible for 40 percent of the Y-Knot's revenue. They both probably work better with a little sauce in them.

...talk about their mothers, too.

The Internet has lamentably allowed "experts" like you and me to throw our barbs from the safety of our Dells and Gateways instead of actually having the guts to say things to someone's face.

Remember, kids - if you don't like what someone says or does, call them:

1. A drunk
2. A child molestor
3. A liar
4. A cheat
5. A thief

Don't worry about substantiating it. If you say it enough, it will magically become true.

Cal - maybe you should tell everybody to settle down? Or is this all okay with you too?
