Alonzo Abrams Jr.

Alonzo Abrams Jr., 59, Fayetteville, died April 12, 2006. He was born May 25, 1946. He was a veteran of the United States Navy where he served two tours in Vietnam. Services were at Providence United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. Jimmy Ellison officiating. Interment was at Camp Memorial Park, Fayetteville. Survivors include a son. Alonzo Abrams III, Fayetteville; a daughter, Michelle Abrams, Sharpsburg; grandchildren, Amanda, Alina, Lia, Natasha Abrams, Courtney Day, and Cory Lakin; and sisters, Harriet Wheeler, Garland, Texas, and Kathi Wright, Orinda, Calif.

John P. Brown Jr.

John P. Brown Jr., 61, Peachtree City, died April 12, 2006. He was born Jan. 25, 1945 in Culpeper, Va. Memorial services were at St. Andrew’s in-the-Pines Episcopal Church with the Rev. Richard D. Brigham officiating. Survivors include a son, Bentley Brown, Peachtree City; a daughter, Valorie and Monty Bennett, Chesterfield, Va.; mother, Iris Brown, Lynchburg, Va.; a brother, Billy Brown, Maryland; a sister, Frances Lafoon, Culpeper, Va.; and three grandchildren.

James Kyle Vickery

James Kyle Vickery, 32, Fayetteville, died April 10, 2006. He was born April 13,1973 in Fulton County. He was preceded in death by his father, James David Vickery. He was a 1992 graduate of Fayette County High School. He was a directional boring driller for the last six years, having worked for his own company, Anytime Directional Drilling, as well as Babb Construction and Com Tran Inc. He enjoyed four-wheeling with his son, as well as fishing and hunting.

Sarah Ann Dye Peevy

Sarah Ann Dye Peevy, 91, Fayetteville, died April 8, 2006. She was born Sept. 1, 1914 in Atlanta. She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Marion K. Peevy. She was a longtime member of Corinth Baptist Church and was retired from Cluett & Peabody. Services were at the Carl J. Mowell chapel with interment at Westview Cemetery, Atlanta. Survivors include a son, Norman and Lamartine Peevy, Columbus, Ga.; grandchildren, Normandy and Jim McKenna, Columbus, Ga., and Cindy Peevy, Stockbridge; great-grandchildren, Craig, Christopher and Amanda McKenna, all of Columbus; and a sister, Virginia Kirkland, Fayetteville.

George “Eddie” Juhan Jr.

George “Eddie” Juhan Jr., 52, North Carolina, formerly of Fayettevile, died April 6, 2006. He was born Dec. 23, 1953 in Fulton County, Ga. He was a member of Harp’s Crossing Baptist Church. He had sold real estate and was a builder of homes in the Fayette County area. Services were at the Carl J. Mowell chapel with the Rev. Dennis Watson officiating. Survivors include his parents, Ed and Bobbie Juhan, Griffin; a brother, Steve and Jan Juhan, Senoia; and sisters, Rhonda and Garry Marlow, Palmetto, and Bonita and Greg Powers, Fayetteville.

Wesley Carter Owens

Infant Wesley Carter Owens died April 6, 2006. Graveside services were at Westminster Memorial Gardens, Peachtree City, with the Rev. Mike Henderson officiating. Survivors include parents, Melissa Balchuck and Jonathan Owens, Fayetteville; a brother, Logan Owens, McDonough; a sister, Alexis Callahan, Fayetteville; grandparents, Larry and Beverly Owens, Senoia, Charlotte and Gary Appplequist, Stockbridge, and Sue and Bobby Balchuck, Fayetteville; and great-grandparents, Kathleen Carter, Hampton, and Ann Smith both of Fayetteville.

Bernice Bradley Choate Cope

Bernice Bradley Choate Cope, 95, Palmetto, died April 5, 2006. She was born March 2, 1911 in Waco, Ga. Memorial services were at the Carl J. Mowell chapel with the Rev. Royeese Stowe officiating. Survivors include children, Richard B. Choate, Jacksonville, Fla., Ellen Diane Huchington, 1000 Oaks, Calif., Kenneth T. Choate, Dahlonega, Robert L. “Bob” Choate, Peachtree City; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Lucille Jackson, Miami, Fla.

Clarence W. Garner

Clarence W. Garner, 89, Villa Rica, died April 4, 2006. He was born Sept. 8, 1916 in Eatonton, Ga. He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Louise S. Garner. He was a World War II veteran, serving with the United States Navy in the South Pacific. He was a pressman for the Atlanta Journal for 34 years. He was a member of Capital View Masonic Lodge, F&AM, and a longtime member of Capital View United Methodist Church.

Maurice Joseph Bourdeau

Maurice Joseph Bourdeau, 85, Peachtree City, died April 1, 2006. He was born June 28, 1920 in Schenectady, N. Y. He was graduated from Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake High School where he lettered in basketball, baseball, and soccer. He served in World War II in the United States Army First Special Forces, Darby Rangers, where he was awarded the Purple Heart. He was a retired Lead Mechanic for Delta Airlines with 30 years of service.

James Linwood Bishop

James Linwood Bishop, Fayetteville, died April 1, 2006. He was a member of Tyrone Masonic Lodge #644 F&AM, and the Fellowship Baptist Church, Fairburn. Services were at the Carl J. Mowell chapel with the Rev. Wayne Younger, the Rev. David Arrington, Jeremy Baseman, and Charles Vaughn officiating. Interment was Westminster Memorial Gardens, Peachtree City. Sara Frances Hendrix

Sara Frances Hendrix, 73, Fayetteville, died March 31, 2006. She was born Jan. 8, 1933 in Randolph County, Ala. She was active in the Fayetteville First United Methodist Church and served as an usher. She was also a volunteer for “Meals on Wheels” as well as a Red Cross volunteer. She served as a school nurse at Russell High School. Services were at the Fayetteville First United Methodist Church chapel with the Rev. Mark Westmoreland officiating. Interment was at Shadow Lawn Cemetery, LaGrange, Ga. Survivors include her husband of 53 years, O. C. Hendrix, Fayetteville; daughters, Denise Hendrix Ambrose, Dalton, and Linda Hendrix Cook, Fayetteville; grandchildren, Shannon W. Moore, Jennifer West, Crystal Hensley, Matthew Ambrose, Stephen Ambrose, and Cameron Barge; and a great-granddaughter, Elice Hensley.

John Hugh Virgil Evans Jr.

John Hugh Virgil Evans Jr., 91, Peachtree City, died March 31, 2006. He was born Dec. 26, 1914 in Delphos, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his wife, Janet Bonnewitz Evans, whom he married in 1941. She died in 1988. He received his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Pennsylvania and graduated from M. I. T. with a Master’s of Architecture. In 1942 he joined the United States Army Corps of Engineers as an officer and served in the South Pacific. in 1954 he became a partner with a firm in Toledo, Ohio. Shortly after retirement he and Janet moved to Savannah where he was active in the Historical Preservations Society and the Telfair Museum. Memorial services were at Newnan Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Dr. Harry Barrow officiating.

Gloria Edythe Hazel Heil

Gloria Edythe Hazel Heil, 87, Peachtree City, died March 30, 2006. She was born March 16, 1919 in Bergen County, New Jersey. She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard G. Heil.Memorial services were at the Carl J. Mowell chapel with the Rev. Chuck Hodges officiating. Survivors include sons, Russ and Suzanne Heil, Peachtree City, and Bruce Heil, Mt. Pleasant, S. C.; grandchildren, Darren and Claire Heil, Peachtree City, and Ryan Heil, Mt. Pleasant, S. C.; and a great-grandchild, Annabelle Heil, Mt. Pleasant, S. C. Patricia Ann “Patsy” Fuller

Patricia Ann “Patsy” Fuller, 54, Fayetteville, died April 2, 2006. She taught 7th grade science at Flat Rock Middle School for the past seven years. She led the school’s “Academic Bowl” team to first place in the regional competition two years in a row. She was a lover of animals, which she shared with her classroom. She was also a fan of literature, leaving a large collection of books behind. She always urged her students to read and then read some more.

Rev. Georgia Oliver White Jr.

Rev. Georgia Oliver White Jr., 84, Fayetteville, died March 31, 2006. He was born June 27, 1921 in Fayette County, son of George O. and Elizabeth Jones White. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Childers White, an infant son, James Allen White, a brother, Harry R. White, and a sister, Martha Daniel. He was the highest decorated native Fayette Countian, having served in the United States Marine Corps in World War II. He was given the Navy Cross and the Silver Star Medal for heroic actions that came within 11 days of each other. He was also give a Purple Heart. These actions came at Cape Gloucester, New Britain. He was also an ordained minister, and served Harmony Grove Baptist Church, South Fulton County, for many years. He was an electrician by trade.

Janice Sams Cole

Janice Sams Cole, 82, Fayetteville, died March 31, 2006. She was born March 5, 1924 in Fayette County, daughter of the late Ferrol Aubrey and Mildred Mathews Sams Sr. She was also preceded in death by her husband, John Clement Cole Jr., and a sister, Jimmie Kate Cole. She was a teacher and registered nurse. She volunteered at Piedmont Fayette Hospital and at the Christian City Alzheimer’s Cottage.

Kathryn Jaynes Laramore

Kathryn Jaynes Laramore, 79, Union City, formerly of East Point, died March 28, 2006. She was born May 4, 1926 in Fulton County. She was preceded in death by her husband, Julius C. “Buddy” Laramore. She was an employed by the Jefferson Avenue Baptist Church as church secretary for many years, and was a long time member of East Point Baptist Church.

Louvale Rhodes

Louvale Rhodes, 81, Fayette County, died March 27, 2006. She was born March 13, 1925 in Fayette County, daughter of Robert and Nellie Kate Turner Davenport.

Norman John Johnson

Norman John Johnson, 91, Fairmont, W. Va., died March 27, 2006. He was visiting family in Peachtree City. He was born Sept. 22, 1914 in Waupaca, Wisc., son of George Jule and Axa Harrington Johnson.

Olga Elizabeth Meza, 42, Fayetteville, died March 26, 2006. She was born Sept. 20, 1963 in Guatemala. She was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.

Beverly Gail Sams

Beverly Gail Sams, 56, Morrow, died March 26, 2006. She was born Sept. 18, 1949 in Atlanta. She was preceded in death by her father, Fred James Sams, and a brother, David Sams.

Colonel Peter P. Yaskin

Colonel Peter P. Yaskin, 86, United States Army, retired, Peachtree City, died March 25, 2006. He was born July 9, 1919 in Ansonia, Conn. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gilda, sons, Jay Yaskin, John Yaskin, and a granddaughter, Dana Rogers Tancraitor.

Ada Leona Holcombe Kenerly

Ada Leona Holcombe Kenerly, 89, Griffin, died March 25,2006. She was born Dec. 19, 1916 in Stone Mountain, daughter of Franklin and Ada Elixir Richardson Holcombe. She was preceded in death by her husband, Johnnie Kenerly, and sons, Gene Kenerly, and Charles Kenerly. She was member of DeVotie Baptist Church, Griffin, and was retired from Dundee Mills.

ELIZABETH REDWINE RAMSEY DIES

FONT OF FAYETTE COUNTY HISTORY

The funeral for Elizabeth Redwine Ramsey, affectionately known as “Miss Boo,” was held Monday afternoon at the Fayetteville First United Methodist Church. Her family has been a mainstay of the church for over a century and a half.

Sarah “Ma Fish” Fisher

Sarah “Ma Fish” Fisher, 96, Jackson, Butts County, Ga., formerly of East Point, died March 26,2006. She was born March 27, 1909 in Gordon County, Ga.

Reinhold Edward Heinze

Reinhold Edward Heinze, 64, Peachtree City, died March 23, 2006. He was born Jan. 3, 1942 in Milford, Neb. He was preceded in death by his father, Carl Heinze, and his first wife, Jean Keeble, whom he married in 1961. She died in 1999. He attended St. Paul’s Lutheran School, Ft. Dodge, Iowa, and Ft. Dodge High School. He was in the trucking business and in 1976 moved his family to Atlanta, owning Commercial Brooks Supply. He was instrumental in founding St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Peachtree City.

Isador Calabro

Isador Calabro, 88, Fayetteville, died March 21, 2006. He was born Jan. 21, 1918 in Brooklyn, N. Y., son of Antonio and Juissapina B. Calabro. He was preceded in death by his wife, Anna DeBlasi. He had served in the United States Army in World War II. He was a retired barber.

Daphne R. Roberts

Daphne R. Roberts, 79, Peachtree City, died March 21, 2006. She was born April 30, 1926 in Berrien, Ga. She was a member of Peachtree City United Methodist Church.

Helen Hardy Woolsey

Helen Hardy Woolsey, 90, Brooks, died March 19, 2006. She was born March 29, 1915 in Brooks, daughter of Emmett Clive and Nora Moody Hardy. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Russell Woolsey, who died in 1949, a son, Marcus L. Woolsey, and brothers, Robert Hardy, and Leon Hardy. She was a member of the Brooks United Methodist Church where she had served on the Official Board and was a member of the United Methodist Women. She served as a town clerk for the city of Brooks, as well as serving as a councilman for many years. She was a member and past president of the Brooks Women’s Club, and had been a teacher in the Brooks school district from 1943 to 1948. She worked at Mask and Gay Food Products, affectionately known as the “stew plant,” and at the age of 55, she and a cousin, Al Hardy, bought the plant. They operated it for the next 10 years, and were proud of having the only smoke stack in Fayette County. The company was a member of the Fayette County Chamber of Commerce. In October, 1999 the town celebrated “Helen Woolsey Day.” She was an accomplished china painter and thoroughly enjoyed reading.
