Helen Hardy Woolsey, 90, Brooks, died March 19, 2006. She was born March 29, 1915 in Brooks, daughter of Emmett Clive and Nora Moody Hardy. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Russell Woolsey, who died in 1949, a son, Marcus L. Woolsey, and brothers, Robert Hardy, and Leon Hardy. She was a member of the Brooks United Methodist Church where she had served on the Official Board and was a member of the United Methodist Women. She served as a town clerk for the city of Brooks, as well as serving as a councilman for many years. She was a member and past president of the Brooks Women’s Club, and had been a teacher in the Brooks school district from 1943 to 1948. She worked at Mask and Gay Food Products, affectionately known as the “stew plant,” and at the age of 55, she and a cousin, Al Hardy, bought the plant. They operated it for the next 10 years, and were proud of having the only smoke stack in Fayette County. The company was a member of the Fayette County Chamber of Commerce. In October, 1999 the town celebrated “Helen Woolsey Day.” She was an accomplished china painter and thoroughly enjoyed reading. Services were at the Brooks United Methodist Church with the Rev. Steve Scholfield officiating. Interment was at the Brooks Memorial Cemetery. Survivors include a son, Gerald and Elsie Woolsey, Brooks; three grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Haisten McCullough Funeral Home, Griffin, was in charge. login to post comments |
