Rev. Georgia Oliver White Jr.

Rev. Georgia Oliver White Jr., 84, Fayetteville, died March 31, 2006. He was born June 27, 1921 in Fayette County, son of George O. and Elizabeth Jones White. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Childers White, an infant son, James Allen White, a brother, Harry R. White, and a sister, Martha Daniel. He was the highest decorated native Fayette Countian, having served in the United States Marine Corps in World War II. He was given the Navy Cross and the Silver Star Medal for heroic actions that came within 11 days of each other. He was also give a Purple Heart. These actions came at Cape Gloucester, New Britain. He was also an ordained minister, and served Harmony Grove Baptist Church, South Fulton County, for many years. He was an electrician by trade.

Services were at the Parrott Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Wilson Williams, and the Rev. Phillip Johnson officiating. Interment was at the Sandy Creek Baptist Church cemetery.

Survivors include daughters, Judy and Robin Caldwell, and Marcia White, both of Fayetteville; brothers, James F. White, and Samuel J. White, both of Fayetteville; granddaughters, Joy and Preston Baker, and Jennifer and Matthew Underwood; and a great-grandchild, Henry Baker.
