John Hugh Virgil Evans Jr., 91, Peachtree City, died March 31, 2006. He was born Dec. 26, 1914 in Delphos, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his wife, Janet Bonnewitz Evans, whom he married in 1941. She died in 1988. He received his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Pennsylvania and graduated from M. I. T. with a Master’s of Architecture. In 1942 he joined the United States Army Corps of Engineers as an officer and served in the South Pacific. in 1954 he became a partner with a firm in Toledo, Ohio. Shortly after retirement he and Janet moved to Savannah where he was active in the Historical Preservations Society and the Telfair Museum. Memorial services were at Newnan Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Dr. Harry Barrow officiating. Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Campbell Evans, Peachtree City, formerly of Savannah, whom he married in 1994; a son, John Evans III, Atlanta, Ind.; a daughter, Laura and Ted Mathiesen, Peachtree City; grandchildren, Brooke and Dan Williams, Peachtree City, and Sydney and Nick Kaigler, Atlanta.
