grendlemom: AMEN to police your own kids . . .

The problem with this is, there are so very many parents, preachers, do-gooders, people who could influence kids, who talk the talk, but certainly do not walk the walk.

MoeBo101: New Park in Union City

I only have one question !! In 1997, the taxpayers of Union City voted for a General Obligation Bond Referendum for land to be purchased for a new park.

cardinal: Mr. Maxwell: "Let's keep it above board..."

Dear Mr. Maxwell,

At the onset of your announcement to run against Mr. Dunn for County Commissioner at Saturday's Republican breakfast, I was encouraged to hear you acknowledge Mr. Dunn's integrity and your plea to run an "above board" campaign. Very noble. However, upon departing the floor, you clearly went "below board" by admonishing, with exception of Mr. Frady, the other Commissioners for not attending Mr. Horgan's swear-in. Why was this necessary? And why are you concerned about Mr. Horgan? I'm not sure. I think it was meant to embarrass the other Commissioners who, by the way, either have full-time jobs or had other legislative commitments.

Reality Bytes: The Great EMS Debate of 2006

Well, it appears we've got our new (or old) "hot button" issue...tax equity and EMS.

Since it appears we have two "champions" of each cause - intheknow and Peter Pfifer, let's get the facts.

Reality Bytes: stormwater bills?

Did anybody get a stormwater bill in the mail today?

What's all that about? Smiling

Concerned Citizen: I wish I lived in DeKalb!

Cynthia McKinney has gone too far. This time she is not only incompetent but has struck a police officer and acted as though it’s HIS fault.

petlover7: Lost dog or dumped dog?

On Wednesday March 22, I went to the Fayette County Humane Society in PTC and adopted a 21 pound male terrier mix. I took him to the vet the same day and was told it seemed he'd had a rough life. He had a tear on one of his ears, and scars on other places of his body. He had a delapidated gray collar on with no tags.

Peter Pfeifer: EMS

Peter Pfeifer's picture

So this subject has come back. Steve Brown and Council brought it up about a year ago. I asked at that time, in person and in several letters to the editor, for a reasonable approach to this issue. I asked that we sit down and figure out several things. How much does it cost Peachtree City taxpayers for EMS services? How much would it cost if EMS services were provided by Fayette County? What service level do we get from Peachtree City Fire and EMS? What would be the service level if EMS were provided by the County?

muddle: Fayetteville City Planners

muddle's picture

Fayetteville ain't got no soul.

It's all about big box stores and subdivisions full of shoddily built houses. "Park" seems not to be in the vocabulary of those in charge. Or "sidewalk." Or "charming downtown." Or "community."

Kelly Hudson: RE: Not allowing Coweta Citizens into the Packer Program

I've been with the Packer Cheerleading Program for 7 years. We are family!!! While I agree that we need more space for our football games, to eliminate our Coweta citizens would be catastrophic to the program.

WakeUp: CNN's spin on illegals

There is a CNN online "Quick Vote" poll where the question is: "Would you illegally cross a border if that was the only way to make a better life for your family?"

fcteacher: What teacher's union?

What state do you live in?

ajoj72000: Oh my!

This town is becoming nothing more than a huge hassle for most of us who live here. Today, I went to the bank in West Park and I was trying to turn back onto 54 so that I could turn onto 74 and people continuously blocked the intersection.

Cops Friends: One More Time Randall

SHERIFF’S RACE ??? Survey people in Fayette and they will point to several reasons for coming here. One is low crime. You would have to be blind and less than objective if you didn’t give Randall Johnson, our Sheriff, a great deal of the credit. This is a request that Randall run again. I know that he has mentioned he won’t run again but we are worried. Who is going to fill those shoes? Fayette County is bigger and the crime problems are more complex. Please Randall, run one more time and train a well educated replacement. Fayette County needs a college educated professional with forensics/major felony experience of at least 10 years in a big city department because that’s what we are facing now.

eodnnaenaj1: The major Atlanta newspaper

eodnnaenaj1's picture

stated the illegals had asked, "who will build your houses and do your landscaping?" With all the large companies in Atlanta facing bankruptcy, large scale layoffs, cutbacks, etc. I believe there might be enough in-betweens that will be glad to accept the jobs. As a person who recently faced a couple of years of unemployment and/or employment making half of my former salary, I can attest to the fact that when the bill collectors and hunger get the best of you, you will accept ANY job. I can also attest to the fact that we, as taxpaying, American citizens, cannot find any "assistance" when we are down and out; I'm not saying hand-outs, I'm saying a hand-up, is not to be found. I suppose all the "assistance" has gone to illegals. There is something terribly wrong when the officials, who are paid directly by our taxes, are unwilling to take care of those who pay the taxes!

JHR: Demonstrations for Illegals

The TV evening news shows that several hundred students in the Forest Park system either left school early, or did not go to school at all, so that they could demonstrate for illegal Mexicans or illegals of another nationality. Photos showed that most of them were Mexicans, but all were not. The school system is treating them as abandoning the school, as well they should.

MeNPTC: FCBOE Can't Think Out of the Box?

MeNPTC's picture

I find it hard to believe that the FCBOE had to make one decision on the redistricting of all elementary schools. Why doesn't the FCBOE review each schools situation, independently? Are they too busy to analyze the situation that best fits each school? They are using a broad-brush approach to much more detailed problem.

Outside of PTC and PTC politics for a moment. Does this day of protest strike anyone else as outrageous? I would be interested to know how others feel about this.

annoyed2max: Crime Rate in Union City

We, as citizens, are always so happy to hear about drug arrest and seizures. Have we asked ourselves about the percentage of other (non-drug related)crimes that have been solved by the Union City police department? It seems to me that the only crimes Union City solves is the ones they receive tips on from other agencies or the criminal is still at the scene of the crime. What about crimes that they need to use real detective work to solve? What is the percentage of solved crimes in Union City? I, for one, would like to see the answer to that question. Maybe we need to check the credentials of the police officers (ranking and non-ranking), the detectives, the administration, etc....

cardinal: Horgan and Chapman...sitting in a tree...

Wouldn't it be "neat" to have them on the Commission together? They can wear the same color shirt, pass notes and giggle in class while intelligent, REPUBLICAN Commissioners like Dunn and Wells get the job done.

rmoc: voting based on number of signs

I voted for Mr Wilkerson who I thought was the most qualified candidate but what I feared occured..Mr Horgan had signs posted everywhere...and I mean everywhere...If Mr Wilkerson had campaigned well, I would have had one of his signs in my yard in Brooks. Unfortunately, alot of folks voter for the name in there neighbors yards and don't educate themselves. I didn't care that Emory was black...what was important to me is that he was a conservative Republican and shared my beliefs. If he made comments that were considered "racist" I hope they were taken out of context because I have a lot of respect for the candidate. I think that if he had spent time shaking hands down here he may have made it a real race...I would have been glad to have a sign for him in my yard...but I was not approached...Horgan made the effort on the south side and I give him credit..Mr Wilkerson should have spend more time out here and we may have seen a different election. Horgan's supporters were spread out all over the south side of the county...but Mr Wilkersons signs were spread among the Fayetteville and North Fayette Candidates..It is about getting the message out and knocking on doors...If you don't make the effort out in the country what do you expect. I am hoping that Mr Wilkerson clarifies the comments that may be taken out of context because I have voted for him before and would hate to see that my trust was given to the wrong candidate.

CaptainLemieux66: Fayette's New Drug Problem, And there's nothing cops can do about it!

CaptainLemieux66's picture

The feeling of being inebreated has been around for about the same time as humans have walked this earth. With the "peace pipe" and laughing gas, our ancestors sure knew how to throw a good party. But the parties didnt stop there, these drugs led to heavier and more dangerous drugs, LSD, heroin, speed, cocaine. (Marijuana is not a dangerous drug, no more dangerous than the 500 million cigarettes that are smoked each day.) Governments decided to draw the line and set boundaries for these drugs. Tobacco is ok because they make money off of it, cocaine is not because it grows in columbia and must be imported; simple as that. however im not here to talk about anything illegal going on in Fayette County, i myself can safely say that i have never once used any type of illegal drug. i am here to talk about this new craze that isnt as new as you think. its called [[[[edited]]]]], and its as legal as a soft drink and a hundred times more effective than those "yellow jackets" sold at gas stations. back in the "old days" say, 15 years ago, [[[[[edited]]]]]] came with the name [[[[edited]]]]]] and it was sold as a floor cleaner. who would ever think Mr. Clean could make us see Tsunamis and think we are floating above the room? Congress quickly caught on to [[[[[edited]]]]] and it was stripped from the shelves due to a concentration of GHB, the active ingredient in homemade ecstacy. [[[[[Edited]]]]]] laid under the radar for a while until a few years ago when a new product was released, [[[[[[edited]]]]]]. This 16 ounce wonder of greatness contains no illegal chemicals, heck, the main ingredient is caffeine. This wonder fluid is sold at select [[[[[[edited]]]]] around metro Atlanta. It is recommended that only people over the age of 18 purchase and consume this product, however many high schoolers have taken it upon themselves to try out this new craze sweeping their beloved town. i was a senior in high school last year, graduated from FCHS, and i can safely say, that there was not one friday from January until May that [[[[[[[edited]]]]]] was not in my system. "Fruit Punch" Fridays was the name of the game, and wow was it ever great. Just think about it, completely unaware of your surroundings, and theres nothing the administration, nor the law enforcement can do about it.

Ted Knapp: The Civil War of the GHSA

I'm concerned, yet optimistic. Remember, I'm the guy who likes good news. I look for good news. High school is a time to invest our very best professional talents, educational resources and community unity to inspire our students to prepare for life, identify their passions, and pursue their dreams. Education is a key component of our society that gives us hope for a better tomorrow. But, I've found a bug in the system. We need "Operation Orkin" or the walls may come down.
