Lost dog or dumped dog?

On Wednesday March 22, I went to the Fayette County Humane Society in PTC and adopted a 21 pound male terrier mix. I took him to the vet the same day and was told it seemed he'd had a rough life. He had a tear on one of his ears, and scars on other places of his body. He had a delapidated gray collar on with no tags.
Yet since the day I got him he has gone to the door to go out and has never gone in the house. He LOVES to play ball and brings it back to drop at your feet. When I offer him a bone and say "sit", he immediately sits. He came and sat at my feet the other night-I asked him where his toy was-and he went and got it! He is a delight!! Someone at some time has cared a lot for this little boy. But there is no way to track them down.
If someone lost him, shame on them for not having identifying tags on him. If someone dumped him somewhere, shame on them for being irresponsible pet owners. But their loss is definitely my gain. I named him Riley, because he will definitely lead the "life of Riley" from now on.

The world needs more people like you. Animals need more responsible humans to spay or neuter their cats and dogs. Our family rescued a 5 week old kitten that was abandoned at the county dump the day after Thanksgiving and he has been such a joy.
I am tired of seeing dogs tied up in backyards with no interaction and then they wonder why they are wild. I am tried of seeing a litter of kittens for a half mile dead on the side of the highway because someone just tossed them. I am tried of neighbors letting their females have kittens every year, then box them up and let the Fayette County Animal Shelter take care of them! Spay and Neuter your pets people! Cat-Snips is a great organization to have your cats done if you can not afford a full vet bill but love your cat enough!
Hope you and you boy have many years of ball playing together!

I, too, hate to see dogs chained up and neglected. Someone in our neighborhood has a dog out back kept like that. I never see any interaction with him whatsoever and he looks pitiful and lonely. The yard is not fenced and it borders a now busy road. He would be better off if they turned him loose and he wandered in front of a car.

The worst case, though, was a few years ago. The man across the street had a dog that was chained outside day and night and regardless of the weather. He often forgot to provide water before heading off for the day and so the dog was in direct sunlight in the summer heat with no water. Our next door neighbors took turns with us sneaking over to make sure that he at least had water and some food. Then we began to notice that the guy's car had not been seen in the driveway for some time though the dog was still chained outside. The man had defaulted on his mortgage, gave up the house for foreclosure, and MOVED AWAY, leaving the dog chained up in the sun! My role in this is that I never reported the neglect as I should have.

Dogs are, by nature, social animals. It is literally torture to isolate them from any interaction.

You did what you could and that's great. Hope the dog was adopted, although it takes a special new family to overcome that kind of abuse. People that do that to animals should be chained outside themselves and we could go look at them and throw stones at them - what scum they are!

Love your new icon. Looking forward to a new quote. Consider Burke.

Have you ever spelled DOG backwards? It spells God. (Sorry mudcat). There is so much we can learn from dogs about love and life. Let's start with unconditional love! What a great heart warming story. I think I'm going to go give my owners a big 'ol lick in the face to let them know just how much I love them!

Sounds like he has a loving home now. People who dump animals on the side of the road some of the lowest forms of scum !

Good for you! I'm glad you live here. See you at the dog park. Whoops, maybe not, I forgot I was a cat.
