Richard Hobbs: Is Fayette County Republican?

Richard Hobbs's picture

The County Commission Post position will be old news in the next several weeks, but it will leave behind a story that will be with us for years to come.

coweta gal: It's just not Coweta Residents

It is amazing how many of you will throw stones at Coweta county citizens for coming to use your parks and paths, but don't think anything about using Kastle Park over in Newnan. In the summer the parking lot is filled with Fayette county cars utilizing our children's park, sprinkler park and picnic area. But of course, citizens of Coweta probably are more down-to-earth, generous and easy going.

eyeluvptc: Once Again

Once again, it is the DUTY of Ms. Watts and Mr. Hobbs to report these complaints to the ethics board. Not to have done so would have brought about these same outcrys of favoritism, just from another candidate(s).

n6ubo: New Traffic Signs

I wasn't aware that we allowed billboards in PTC?!
Easily read traffic signs are a blessing on someone not faimliar with the area, but these are much too large, and completely out of character with the rest of the city.

eyeluvptc: It's their DUTY as the Board of Elections

The point is not who made the complaint or when it was made, but the fact that it was made and needed to be investigated.

sour grapes: The Story Behind Sour Grapes

I was injured on the job with the county. The doctor cleared me to return to work within seven to ten days after the accident. Howevever, former County Administrator Chris Cofty and Mark Pullium, the Finance Director, had an unwritten rule that no one could return to work with any restrictions until they were rated at 100 percent by the workers' comp doctor. My rating was no lifting over ten or fifteen pounds for a certain period of time. No problem. As the web person, I did not have to do much lifting. Since I couldn't return to work under this "unwritten" rule, I was out for seven weeks until the doctor cleared me to return work. The day I returned to work they abolished my job. Case of sour grapes? You bet ya. I was led to believe that I would be doing something else in the Information Systems Department when I returned to work; however, that just turned out to be a falsehood so that Mark Pullium didn't have to inform the Director of Information Systems and the Assistant Director of Information Systems (my department) until the day before the Board of Commissioners voted to eliminate my job based on Pullium's recommendation.

concernedneighbor: Road Signs

Does anyone but me see a problem with the new road signs the county has posted on Hwy 54?

It seems that a furniture store sign posted in a very "blending" spot to support our armed forces,is unacce ptable. But the BIG YELLOW signs that are being posted for upcoming road notices are acceptable? It is worse than looking at a resturant sign or store sign that has limits.

Buckwheat Rules: Onyx

Buckwheat Rules's picture

Ok, what gives? Hooters of Fayetteville goes away then this place called Onyx takes over the joint but never opens it's doors. First off, what is "Onyx?," Secondly, what happened to it? I saw all this remodeling going on and I even saw 2 days of activity as if it were a private grand opening or something of the kind......then nothing at all. Now it sits there with all the signs of a closed-up shop.

Ted Knapp: Starr's Shine and War Eagles Soar

Let's get this over with up front. Yes, I heard from Whitt Jones. Yes, he claims his dating life is just fine and needs no help from me. I expected that. What I did not expect were both my daughters and my wife agreeing with him! The entire female population in my home thinks he's "a real cutie." I'm sick just repeating it in public. My daughters thought my comments last week about Coach Jones simultaneously combined with my mug shot "debuting" with the column was somewhat of an "oxy-moron." Ouch, next time I'll pick on Brandon Hutchins.

Buckwheat Rules: Racquetball Courts

Does anyone know if there are racquetball courts anywhere in Fayette County? A league perhaps? I'm dying to play again and I just don't know where to go.

bowser: Highway 74

In all this talk of PTC annexation and Tyrone mega-subdivisions, it would be nice to hear some elected officials (besides the now-departed Steve Brown) talk about what can be done to save Ga. 74 from clogging up like a 90-year-old's arteries.

Ted Knapp: Always a pleasure

I hope by now you have become familiar with my weekly column. I appreciate all the kind words and emails in response to my first three weeks as a pseudo-journalist. I must admit I’m having fun. I love to write about young athletes. We have the best kids in the state right here. Our schools are terrific and the coaches are top drawer. Like you, I take great pride in being a resident of Fayette County.

Cheap Seat Chatter: Braves: Pull one out

Finally got to check out the recording of Friday's Braves-Dodgers spring training matchup.

That kid Saltalamacchia, the new youthful catcher, came up with the game-winning hit, a three-run dinger off a 92 mph fastball down the heart of the plate. Not too shabby; maybe he'll live up to his potential early, but heaven knows he's already gotten a ton of the hype.

Fayetteresident: Wanted: New Commission Chairman for Fayette Co.

Chairman Dunn had his chance to do great things while in office, however, he will be known as the “most controversial commissioner”. He can’t seem to get along with any municipality in the county, and even his own employees find him difficult to work for – and, did anyone else get a chance to see the picture of his screaming face on the front page of the Fayette section in the AJC last Thursday? (section J)

thenatural: Picking on High Green

FR,

You make good points about the work done by local law enforcement fighting crime in the county. That is their job is it not? That is exactly why they are given the tools they have. I admire them for the job they do, I appreciate the job they do, but that does not mean that I think that blind loyalty is the answer.

Ted Knapp: Jones hits jackpot

I like Butch Prosser. Butch has always been kind and accommodating. I've had numerous McIntosh football players on our (recently cancelled) radio show during the last two seasons. The kids have always been polite, articulate and insightful. Butch joined us on numerous occasions, as well. Although most of his interviews followed tough losses, Butch was gracious and upbeat.
