Trash, Trash Everywhere

della's picture

I'm a regular path user in PTC. I've noticed lately that there's a lot of trash lying everywhere! I guess since PTC is growning, so are the number of buffoons who litter. You'd think by now - public service announcements, adopt-a-mile, trash cans, etc - that everyone would know better. I don't know how many times I've seen people throw lit cigarettes out of their car. That's littering, too! Is it THAT difficult to put litter in it's place? What's it going to take, people?

I am totally SHOCKED how this blog turned into an over-heated shouting match! I was trying to remind everyone that litter has it place; nothing else. I apologize to The Citizen for having to intervene.

Yes you were talking trash only on the cartpaths. Best thing would be to take this blog down and start over.

Litter is bad and illegal and there should be punishment for those who mess up our city - regardless of where they live. I'd like to see th fines higher for non-residents, but other than that, I won't escalate the debate.

I thought hamsters LIKED litter. Eye-wink

Yes, hamsters like litter and we like it in our own cage. I don't poop on your lawn or throw Coke cans in your driveway or McDonald's bags on the cart paths. And I sure don't throw cigarettes out of my car window (smokers are morons, and rude ones at that) or anything else to put my trash into your enviornment. How about we all respect each others space and don't trash it? OK with you all?

Do you really think that any of this will help? This city has become trash. Did you people really think that you could keep this little bubble town new forever? Get the trash out of the city and keep an eye on your kids (since they make up a huge majority that uses the paths)and then maybe things would get better. Until then, pick it up yourself because it was probab;y your child or one of their friend's who threw the trash on the ground!

Amen! oh no wait. These have to be kids transported here from another community.

What it will take to reduce the litter problem is citizens taking photos of littering people and turning them in to the city. And testifying in court. And then, having $500 fines for each conviction -perhaps half of that could go back to the whistle-blower.

Why not take it to next level and fine the Coweta County people who come over here and use our cart paths without paying taxes. I'd be happy to follow them, take photos and turn them in to law ennforcement.

Submitted by stillhere on Sun, 04/09/2006 - 11:40am.

Since you have way to much time on your hands, or do hamsters have pawls? not sure of the rodent community. Seems you and are completely delusional. What you want the people living within the bubble to believe is that all the wows of bubble city is because the Aliens from Coweta use our cart paths. What about the Aliens from Tyrone, Fayette Co, Brooks, etc: You going to follow all these people as well. Or to be fair, then you would have to post yourself at the bridge on Rockaway and snapshot the bikers who go from the bubble into another county for enjoyment and pleasure. Oh, for the record! Before we blame everyone else for our issue's which seems to be the standard for bubble city adults. I watched 3 car loads of your precious kids (whom you parents just can't beleive will do no wrong) dump 5 bags of McDonalds trash into the parking lot not that long ago. Yes, the bubble kids! I guess getting out of the car and walking 30 ft was to much for the McIntosh kids.

I thought that's why we just had the change in getting your cart re-registered every few years? So Police can actually check people's registration on their carts.

In regards to Coweta residents using the cart paths:

Are you saying they are driving on unregistered golf carts or just merely using them (ie jogging, riding a bicycle, etc)? Last time I checked those paths are for public use, aren't they?

I'm talking about bike riders, joggers and walkers with dogs who poop on our paths which we clean up with our tax dollars - none of which are contributed to by the aliens from Coweta. Public use my butt, get them out of here.

"....joggers and walkers with dogs who poop on our paths...."

It's upsetting when the dogs poop on the paths.

It's even MORE upsetting when walkers (with dogs) do it. If the people pooping on the paths are from Coweta County then, by all means, keep them out!

Hamster, there is not an ounce of seriousness in any of this. I'm just bored. No offense intended. Smiling

The point is that people who do not live in Peachtree City should not be allowed to use our facilities unless they pay for them in some way. If you want to focus upon dog poop, OK, we will. What happens when a Coweta County dog poops on our cart path and a Peachtree City worker has to clean it up? Who poops? Who pays?

And actually it is serious. Do you want to run a theme park for have-nots ouside the city and pay for it through your tax dollars?

Some folks just enjoy seeing other Cities. These same folks just may decide to get a bite to eat somewhere, etc. IE spend some $$$ in PTC.

The cart paths are public use. Get over it. The aliens you refer to are Americans and Georgians. The same ones who work for the fire, police and sheriff departments. The some ones who shop and contribute taxes here.

The crazy aliens can work here. They just can't take a walk during lunch or jog before/after work.

That sounds a bit "anal" don't you think?

What's next, you can't take a walk in a public park? What are you saying? The PTC police should arrest Coweta residents? Make them pay a cart path user fee? Sheesh!

This is one that I have to agree with the hamster on. Just as any county or city does, their recreation is provided for their citizens and funded by like. Been that way forever and should remain that way.

Any non-resident shouldn't be utilizing these facilities unless they are a guest of a citizen. The city even has that published when using the lakes within city limits. City residents and their guests may use the lakes for no additional cost, but non-residents may not.

This stance may make me anal in your opinion, but you know what they say about opinions, everyone has one just like that same part of the anatomy you were refering to.

The Coweta people who come here actually park their cars at city hall on the weekend, unload their bikes or dogs or rug rats and picnic baskets and make a day of it. I have spoken to some of them and they say "public" and assume it applies to them.

Obviously, there needs to be a policy set by city council and that policy needs to be posted in "public" and enforced.

Why can't some of you get out in front of this and start the debate?

I thought we were talking about walking and using the golf cart paths? I see nothing wrong with whoever walking the paths and enjoying the parks. I do not think that "aliens" to PTC should be forbidden to enjoy the country side/sites in our beautiful town.

I do agree though that ANYBODY throwing trash ANYWHERE should be fined to the maximum extend allowed by law.

That non-residents are forbidden to use the lakes, pools, etc only makes sense, since a substantial cost of upkeep is involved.

Submitted by dkinser on Thu, 03/16/2006 - 11:32pm.

While you make it seem as though these people who are not citizens of Peachtree City do no harm to our beloved recreation facilities; they do not pay to play. Therefore, they should stay off of the paths and out of the recreational facilities.

I don't go to Coweta, Clayton, or Fulton Counties, and expect to use their facilities (probably get shot in 2 of those counties anyway). Likewise, they shouldn't expect to come to Peachtree City and use ours. If they want to use the facilities the solution is simple. Move within the city limits and pay the taxes.

I like how in your mind you can seperate one recreational perk from another. It is OK for someone who doesn't pay city taxes to use a portion of our facilities, i.e. cart paths; but you draw the line on lakes, pools, and exactly what is etc? Why are they different? They are managed by the same governmental body and paid for by the same citizen base. They don't pay, they shouldn't play.

As for cost of upkeep, I believe that $6,000,000.00 of SPLOST money is earmarked for cart path maintenance. In my mind that isn't petty cash and most likely exceeds the cost of the upkeep on the pools and lakes.

Again, just an opinion. I'm sure we'll hear yours all over again.

you and the rodent (hamster) must both live in that railroad community. I think the track noise has gotten to you both. Though I don't know for sure if you are a card carrying member of any hate group, I would surely say an uneducated bigot. You make comments like :these people", "probably get shot if visited other counties". Well maybe good things happen to those who... I can only hope and pray you don't ever leave the bubble. You really have no business leaving your railroad community truth be told. For fun you can climb that nice looking track wall and wave to the Engineer as he rolls by. Don't have to worry to much about people coming to visit your place. Be hard to find hidden behind wal-mart and apartments. There is some redemption, if we do visit, we get to see one of the oldest PTC communities.

And exactly what harm is being done to our facilities that those of us who do actually live here don't do???? I have personally seen bubble people, mainly kids, have no respect for this community or our facilities.

What about all Aliens? Tyrone, Brooks, Fayetteville, Fayette Co. Speaking of your SPLOST comment. I'm thinking a lot of this money comes from people outside the bubble. Which in turn does say that outsiders do pay. I can only pray you never leave the bubble. You are an embarrassment to us all.

I do not remember ever seeing a sign ANYWHERE on the cart paths, indicating they are for PTC residents and their guests only. I do remember seeing such signs for the lakes and other recreational areas.

It is not me who seperates these facilities, it is our local government.

And yes, I see absolutely nothing wrong with ANYBODY using a PUBLIC park for recreation.

Just because you are too scared in your fancy Centennial [[[[edited out]]]]]]] outfit to venture into another county (heaven forbid with black people), doesn't mean that citizens from other counties should be scared of you!

You've crossed the threshold with your latest post. Just to make this clear, if you are accusing me of belonging to a hate group, you might want to notify your attorney. Your comments are inflammatory, derogatory, and slanderous. So please clarify your stance.

You are entitled to your opinion as I am mine, but you cannot accuse people without just cause. I have never had to stoop so low as to make unfounded accusations against another as you have just done. In one post you have called me a Nazi and a member of the KKK.

I made no racial commentary in my last post, that was your interpretation and not mine. I used to live in Clayton County and regularly heard of shootings and violence in their park systems. The escalation in violence was one of the reasons for leaving Clayton County. Shame you weren't one of the victims.

Centennial is a diverse neighborhood and once again, you have slandered; this time our Home Owners Association by implying that Centennial operates as a KKK entity.

My husband and I were walking the paths the other day, and a older man was picking up trash and putting it into a garbage back that he was carrying. We think he was doing coumminty service. You can not stop people from littering, but you can find a fix. If he was doing coumminty service, PTC courts are doing great. If he was just a kind soul, thank you. If that is the case, the Judges in PTC should look at this as a form of coumminty service.

I've seen numerous people over the years voluntarily picking up trash on both paths and roadsides in PTC, my better half among them. But I've also seen the amount of trash steadily increasing. I think it's just math. If you assume that 1 percent of the population consists of morons, jerks or delinquents who'd toss trash out of a golf cart or car, steady population growth is going to mean more actual trash being tossed even if that percentage doesn't change. Same thing on Highway 74, where I suspect most of the trash blows out of trucks -- there's just so many more of them now that there's a lot more trash. I will say this (and as a longtime Georgian it pains me to say it): I've traveled around the US pretty extensively and if there's a state with trashier roadsides generally, I haven't seen it.
