Top-ranked Starr's Mill's opponents keep dropping like dominoes on the volleyball court.

Starr's Mill swept ninth-ranked Whitewater 25-17, 25-10 and unranked Northgate 25-13, 25-20 in Area 3-AAAA action Tuesday at the Panther Pit in Fayetteville.

The annual Clara Bowl was held at Berry College last Saturday. Several local teams fared well in the varsity division.

Comcast will televise the Whitewater Wildcats at Sandy Creek Fighting Patriots for week two of its 2007 Chevy High School Football Game of the Week broadcast schedule, Friday, Sept. 7 at 7:30 p.m.

Our Lady of Mercy’s Bobcats fell to Creekview 43-7, but head coach Bryan Pinabell saw good effort and knows the game was closer than the scoreboard indicated. The Bobcats had two touchdowns called back due to penalties, including one from a 92 yard run from quarterback William Pearl on the second play of the game. Jarrell Bankhead ran four yards for Our Lady of Mercy’s lone touchdown, but Pinabell praised the play of Christian Willis, 10 tackles and 65 yards rushing, Will Simmons, nine tackles, and Patrick Silloway, seven tackles, in the game.

Ugly would be the best word to describe the Cherokee Warriors' 10-3 victory Saturday over the Starr's Mill Panthers in the Kell Powerade Classic at the Georgia Dome.

The 2007 Indians look like a lot of Indian teams from the past. They are big on the offensive and defensive lines, have a very talented running game led by senior Tim McGill and a solid quarterback in Mac McKnight. In their scrimmage against Northgate, McKnight, McGill, Spencer Smith and Stephan Patterson all shined, as did the defense which kept the Vikings off the board. Standouts were DJ Hardaway, Joe Fraser and Christian Flavin.

The McIntosh High School boys and girls cross country teams won their first meet of the season earlier this week.

Mother Nature wreaked havoc on the Whitewater Lady Wildcats and Sandy Creek Lady Patriots on Wednesday in Tyrone.

With the teams tied at 2 to start the sixth inning, lightning struck for the second time, forcing the umpires to call the game.

The Lady War Eagles recorded their first victory of the season Tuesday against region opponent Our Lady of Mercy, 18-3 in five innings.

Two of the top teams in the state played each other Tuesday in a key Region 2-AAAA game: the fourth-ranked Starr's Mill Lady Panthers and the sixth-ranked Whitewater Lady Wildcats.

McIntosh’s Lady Chiefs varsity softball team defeated Creekside 22-1 on Tuesday. After only notching one run in the first, McIntosh scored 11 runs in the second and 10 in the third for the win.

Patrick Blankenbeker is a versatile teenager; the 16-year-old junior at Fayette County High School is a runner on the school’s cross country team, plays piano and is a member of the school’s quartet team, which sang its way to a region championship last year.

One of the hottest softball teams in the state is the Starr’s Mill Lady Panthers.
The undefeated Lady Panthers, ranked fifth in the state, picked up their seventh and eighth wins last week, defeating Westlake 15-0 and Union Grove 3-0.

Special Olympics Georgia recently named Pam Allen of Fayette County Outstanding Coach at the 2007 Distinguished Service Awards Banquet.

The volleyball teams from Starr’s Mill and McIntosh faced off against some of the top teams in the state on Saturday. The Lady Panthers did very well, going undefeated on the day, while McIntosh went 2-3.

A day after lighting and pouring rain forced the cancellation of their scrimmage, the Starr's Mill Panthers and Sandy Creek Patriots squared off Saturday morning at the Battlefield Field in Tyrone.
