Boot camps offered to get kids in shape, both physically and mentallyCarla Allen, owner of Fit 4 A new life Fitness in Fayetteville, offered a successful weight loss boot camp for women earlier this year. The camp got local women participating in aerobic exercise, gave them instruction in proper nutrition and created an encouraging support system for everyone involved. Allen now hopes to do something similar for children. Two wheeled winnersLocal talent Russell Bobbitt and Andrew Matusek have one big thing in common, their passion for off-road motorcycling. On Sunday, July 1, I decided to get in my car and travel up I-85 to Greenville, SC. I wanted to see the ball park that some had called a “mini Fenway” and the Greenville Drive, a single A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox (my favorite team). If I went on this particular day I would also get to see Sandy Creek graduate Brent Brewer play. Brewer is the starting shortstop for the West Virginia Power, a single A affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers.

The sport of golf may be, as someone once succinctly summarized, a “good walk spoiled,” but it has put it hooks in to me. I love the challenge of trying to improve on my last game and my last shot. While I often play against my father or my friends, golf is more about me trying to best myself.
