McIntosh boys win state soccer title
The McIntosh Chiefs varsity boys soccer team got a goal and an assist from Cameron Black and a goal from Bilal Duckett to win the AAAA state soccer title 2-1. Whitewater's Josh Adair was credited with the Wildcats' only goal.
Whitewater girls win state title in overtime
Starr's Mill had a 1-0 lead at halftime of the AAAA final thanks to a goal from Katrina Frost. They held on to the lead for 14 hours, through a lightning delay, until the game started again at 10 a.m. Saturday.
No girls champion yetStarr's Mill's Katrina Frost scored halfway through the first half to give the Lady Panthers a 1-0 lead. Unfortunately, lightning was spotted in the area at halftime and the game continued to get dealyed. Our Lady of Mercy girls track team wins second straight state titleWith another great team performance, as well as an outstanding performance from Raven Moore, the Our Lady of Mercy Lady Bobcats edged out Landmark Christian for the second straight Class A title in track. Whitewater and McIntosh boys advance to AAAA soccer final four, Starr's Mill knocked outWhitewater got two first half goals from Chris Gilmore and one second half goal from Brian Forero to defeat Marist 3-1 on Saturday afternoon. Indians win region, Panthers and Vikings share region 2-AAAA titleThe East Coweta Indians (19-6, 10-2 region) have won the region 4-AAAAA title, having won five region games in a row and outscoring their opponents 53-9 in the span. The Indians and the Newnan Cougars could finish with the same region record but East Coweta has the Cougars beat in run differential in head to head match-ups. McIntosh boys tennis team makes AAAA final fourThe McIntosh Chiefs defeated Starr's Mill on Thursday night to earn a place in the state semi-finals next Friday. Sophomore Austin Tilton won at #1 Singles 6-4, 6-1. Junior captain Jonathon Emmet lost 1-6, 5-7 but helped to support teammate sophomore Matt Thompson who proved he could outlast his opponent with a clutch win at #3 singles 3-6, 6-0, 6-4. Senior captain Will Truex and partner junior Davy Witdfeldt at #1 doubles went three sets but lost 4-6 in the third. Freshman Femi Brinson and Stewart Weisheit won easily 6-0, 6-1 at #2 doubles. OLM boys win third straight region track titleOn Tuesday night, May 1, the Our Lady of Mercy boys track team completed a "3-peat" winning the Class A Region 5A championship for the third year in a row.
