The high school baseball season is almost over but there is still plenty of excitement for local teams, four of which are likely headed to the state playoffs.

Region 2-AAAA
Starr’s Mill lost to Northgate 10-4 on Monday. Ed Cook hit a home run in the game and was charged with the loss as a pitcher. The loss puts Starr’s Mill on the road to begin the state playoffs. They will host Whitewater tonight at 6 p.m. A win would give Starr’s Mill the third spot and Whitewater the fourth spot, but a Whitewater win could put them in a tie for first with Woodward Academy.

Whitewater defeated Banneker 15-0 in three innings on Monday. Woodward’s two remaining region games this week are with Creekside and Banneker.

Northgate will host McIntosh today at 5 p.m. McIntosh played at Westlake last night after the paper went to press.

Fayette County took on Westlake on Monday and won 8-7. The Tigers will play at Creekside on Wednesday and will close out the season with a home game against Sandy creek on Thursday.

6-AAA
Sandy Creek recently picked up two major region wins, defeating central, Carroll 10-0 and Villa Rica 9-0. They will play at Cedartown tonight and a win will lock up the fourth spot in the region and a trip to the Class AAA state playoffs.

5-A
Landmark Christian defeated Mt. Paran 3-1 on Monday, putting the War Eagles at fourth place in the region with two region games left. They played Whitefield Academy last night after the paper went to press and will play at Our Lady of Mercy at 5 p.m. on Thursday.
