McIntosh soccer teams sweep Fayette County

The games between these two schools are always big rivalries, but the scores this year were a bit lopsided.

The McIntosh Lady Chiefs beat the Lady Tigers 7-0. Goals were scored by K.C. Hewitt (2), Tawny Moffatt, Amanda Cisko, Olivia Tucker, Kate Marnock and Meghan O'Rourke.

Everyone expected a battle between the Whitewater and Starr’s Mill varsity baseball teams, but nobody could have predicted the 12 inning, four hour game that was played on Wednesday evening. Especially after the way it started.

State playoffs in the future for 10 local soccer teams

McIntosh’s boys, ranked first in Class AAAA, are ranked second in the nation in the most recent National Soccer Coaches Association of America, just below Greenville, S.C. The Chiefs (14-0-2, 7-0 region) defeated Westlake 15-0 on Tuesday night and are off until next Monday’s home game with the Fayette County Tigers. McIntosh has won the region title. Even if they lose to the Tigers next Monday and Starr’s Mill defeats Woodward Academy on Friday, they would claim the title since they beat Starr’s Mill head to head.

Chiefs best Woodward, 14-7

The McIntosh boys lacrosse team returned to their winning ways following their first out of state road trip last week. The team faced off against a very tough Nease High School team, ranked fourth in Central Florida, and lost a close decision 13-11, then came back in the same day to defeat the 12th ranked Episcopal team by a score of 9-7.

McIntosh lacrosse defeats Starr's Mill (video included)

The McIntosh Chiefs boys lacrosse team faced off against the Starr’s Mill Panthers last Friday and won 16-4. The Chiefs got four goals a piece from Nicco Derosa, DJ Ward and Zach Ward, while Garrett Lee scored two and Brian Huefner and Danny Christ each scored one. The Panthers goals were scored by Joel Gosner (2), Peter Glaser and Jake Moore.

Starr’s Mill’s varsity baseball team continued their winning ways on Wednesday with an 8-6 win over the McIntosh Chiefs. It was Starr’s Mill’s fourth win in a row, all of them region wins. The Panthers got a home run from Brian Fletcher in the first and Trent Freeman followed, capitalizing on some errors with some smart baserunning to give Starr’s Mill a 2-0 lead. Ken Jackson got a single and his pinch runner scored on an RBI double from Michael Jeanes. McIntosh’s Johnny Peaden would get a run back with a fielder’s choice RBI that would score Cameron Rich. Both teams were not done scoring though and the game got very tight before Starr’s Mill reclaimed the lead for good.

The McIntosh boys tennis team defeated Starr’s Mill High School Tuesday night with a hard fought 4-1 victory. The Lady Chiefs had their first loss of the season at the hands of their tough region rival, 3-2.

Chiefs beat Pace, will host Starr’s Mill tonight

The McIntosh varsity boys lacrosse team continues to roll defeating area rival Pace Academy by a score of 9-7. Jumping to a 7-3 lead at half, the Chiefs had an opportunity to give many players more time, and coasted to the victory. The latest win takes the sixth ranked McIntosh to 6 -1 overall, including five straight wins. The Ward brothers, Zack and DJ, anchored the attack with support from Joe Maskery, Brian Huefner and freshman Jack Bornhofen. Garrett Lee, Andy Milani, Dan Christ, Dan Green and goalie standout freshman Cooper O’Brien all had strong games in the winning effort.

Starr's Mill golfers improve to 9-0

The Starr’s Mill boys golf team continued their undefeated season with a solid win over the Whitewater boys team at Planterra Ridge CC Monday afternoon. Using the four low scores on the team, Starr’s Mill recorded a one under par 143 team total to beat the Whitewater team’s 174 total by 31 shots. Low scores for Starr’s Mill were carded by Connor MacBean (34), Adam Baaklini (36), Tyler Smith (36), and Cory Crump (37).

Sandy Creek boys and Starr's Mill girls win county championships in track

The Fayette County Championship track meet took place at Starr’s Mill on Wednesday and Thursday and Sandy Creek placed first with 182 points, 39 points ahead of Starr’s Mill. Fayette County placed third, followed by Whitewater, Our Lady of Mercy and McIntosh.

Teams are now into the meat of their region schedule and things are going well for some and tough for others.

Sandy Creek does very well at Carrolton Relays

On Saturday, March 24 the Sandy Creek Track Team (girls and boys) traveled to Carrollton to participate in the Carrollton Relays. The teams performed well, with the boys capturing second place. Christian Taylor was named Most Outstanding Male Athlete for the event for his awesome day on the track, and many other athletes had great performances.

Six local teams stay ranked, keep facing tough opponents

Few fans of the beautiful game could argue with the excellence of the 2007 high school soccer season, at least in this neck of the woods. With the boys and girls teams of McIntosh, Starr’s Mill and Whitewater all ranked in the top 10 joined by their region foes from Woodward Academy and the girls team from Northgate, it is clear that region 2-AAAA is the toughest region in the state. The results from the weekend only strengthen that argument.

Help Peachtree City win the BriarRose Grand Peleton community challenge, raise $50,000 for cancer research

As part of the 2006 Tour de Georgia, 164 amateur cyclists completed the Inaugural BriarRose Grand Peloton, raising $51,700 for the Georgia Cancer Coalition. Riding the same 25-mile route as the professionals, these men and women from 11 different states took a more leisurely pace to the finish line, but the impression they made coming across that line made just as big a statement. For participants in the BriarRose Grand Peloton, who traveled from as far away as California, Colorado, and Michigan, the bicycle ride from Cumming was all about defeating cancer.
