Sandy Creek does very well at Carrolton Relays

On Saturday, March 24 the Sandy Creek Track Team (girls and boys) traveled to Carrollton to participate in the Carrollton Relays. The teams performed well, with the boys capturing second place. Christian Taylor was named Most Outstanding Male Athlete for the event for his awesome day on the track, and many other athletes had great performances.

The boys brought home 34 medals/ribbons, and the girls brought home 10 medals/trophies for a total of 44 overall (24 medals, 20 ribbons)! A few Sandy Creek athletes also set new personal records, as well as Karnesha Slaughter breaking the school record in the Pole Vault with a vault of 9’.

This week will be the Fayette County Championships at Starr’s Mill High School. The girls will run on Wednesday, while the boys will perform on Thursday.

Girls Results:
• 4x100 Girls A Team - 3rd Place, Allie Duper, Mercedes Ferguson, Jenna Jackson and Aleah Hordges

• 4x200 Girls Relay – 6th Place, Duper, Ferguson, Maria Flanders and Hordges

• Pole vault - Slaughter – 6th Place (with a new Personal and School Record of 9 feet).

• 100 meter dash - Hordges – 4th Place

Boys Results:

• Taylor was named Most Outstanding Male Athlete at the Carrollton Relays Saturday. He had an unbelievable performance and was involved in 28 individual points and 48 overall points!

• 4x100 Boys A Team – 1st Place, Jonathon Ross, Taylor, Carl McGill and Michael DeHaven

• 4x400 Boys A Team – 1st Place, DeChaun Lee, Rhyan Atrice, DeHaven and Taylor

• 4x400 Boys B Team – 5th Place, Zach Hilton, Darius Harris, Rashid Hollis and Atrice

• 300 Hurdle Boys Relay – 4th Place, Brendan Fludd, Isaac Martin, Wali Johnson and Isaiah Johnson

• 110 Boys Hurdle Relay – 5th place, Michael McMullin, Isaiah Johnson, Fludd and Martin

• 1600 Sprint Medley – 2nd Place, Ross, Hollis, Atrice and Jonathon Owens

• 4x200 Boys Relay – 2nd Place, Ross, Hilton, McGill and DeHaven

• Taylor – 1st Place in the Long Jump, 1st Place in the Triple Jump, 2nd Place in the 100M Dash

• DeHaven – 3rd Place in the 100M Dash

• James Mathis – 4th Place in the Long Jump, 6th Place in the Triple Jump

Landmark Christian School’s girls track team placed fifth in the Dalton Rotary meet. Those who scored points for Landmark were:

• 800 meter run - Kaity Bulger, 2nd, 2:30.40

• 1,600 meter run - Bulger, 2nd, 5:39.00

• 3,200 meter run - Hannah Gravitt, 6th, 13:04.27

• 100 meter hurdles - Christian McGuire, 4th, 15.92

• 300 meter hurdles - McGuire, 3rd, 48.78

• 4x100 meter relay - Landmark Christian, 5th, 51.55

• 4x400 meter relay - Landmark Christian, 8th, 4:29.52

• Pole vault - Bulger, 2nd, 9’

• Shot put - Jo’el Christian, 4th, 34’3.25”

The boys placed 15th. Scorers for the boys were:

• 1,600 meter run - Mehamed Gomez, 8th, 4:59.43

• 3,200 meter run - Daniel Hix, 8th, 10:59.81

• 110 meter hurdles - Durrell Smith, 8th, 16.02

• Pole vault - Jimmy Eden, 3rd, 11’6”
