Baseball teams pick up wins over break

While some students were already lounging and relaxing their brains on spring break, numerous student athletes had some games to play before they could have their fun.

McIntosh faced Mundy’s Mill on Tuesday afternoon and came back from a three run deficit to win 8-6. In the top of the third inning, Johnny Peaden hit an RBI triple and later scored when Eric Weiss hit a two run home-run to tie the game. The Chiefs added four runs in the fourth,two runs came in due to passed balls and two came in on walks to Jake Tanis and Weiss. The Tigers added one run in the bottom of the fifth and McIntosh got one more in the fifth when another run came home after Tanis was hit by a pitch. Mundy’s Mill made it close in the bottom of the seventh, getting two runs and putting the tying runs on second and third before Cameron Rich struck out two of the last three batters.

McIntosh will return to action next Wednesday with a home game against Northgate at 5:30 p.m.

East Coweta faced Mundy’s Mill on Monday and won 3-1. Ben Inman drove in all three runs for the Indians and Rico Reid (4-2) was the winning pitcher.

Whitewater entered their break with two high scoring region wins. The Wildcats defeated Creekside 13-3 with Justin Carpenter (5-1) earning the win. Heine Rivera hit a grand slam and drove in five RBIs, while Travis Dingler went 4-for-5 at the plate and drove in five runs as well. On Tuesday, Whitewater beat Banneker 14-1. Jake McBride and Nick Nieves combined for a no-hitter and Ryan Johnson and Miles Head both hit home runs.

Whitewater will face Starr’s Mill at home next Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.

Starr’s Mill is playing in a tournament in Charleston, S.C. this week. The Panthers started off with a 12-1 victory over New Rochelle, New York but fell to Stone Bridge, Va. on Tuesday 6-5.

Northgate’s Vikings got a 1-0 forfeit win over Banneker on Monday and got an 11-10 win over Shaw on Tuesday. The Vikings will play at Sandy Creek at 5:30 p.m. Monday.

Sandy Creek snapped a five game losing streak and picked up their first region win by defeating Central, Carroll 15-2 on Tuesday. The Patriots faced Cairo at Middle Georgia College.
