Starr’s Mill’s boys and girls faced their counterparts from Northgate earlier this week and dealt their hopes of reaching the state playoffs some serious blows.

The Panther boys (8-1-3, 5-1 region) won 5-0 behind goals from Colin Mallon (2), Daniel Hojaij, Chris Capati and Jesy Phelps. The loss puts Northgate’s record at 9-5 overall and 3-4 in the region with the only region game left to play against the fifth ranked Whitewater team. A win would still put the Vikings outside of the top four. The Lady Panthers (7-2-1, 4-1 region) won 3-1, getting goals from Carlie Banks (2) and Laura McCalla. Shea Francis scored the lone goal for Northgate. The Lady Vikings remaining region game is against the fifth ranked Whitewater team and it is a must win if they hope to reach the playoffs.

Whitewater’s boys and girls faced Shiloh earlier this week and both teams won. The girls (5-4-1, 3-2 region) won 4-0 with two goals from Jewelia Strickland scoring two goals and Kayla Emerson and Brittany Vining each adding one. Bailey Powell and Emily Culbreth both had assists, while Lisa Wilson and Ali Young combined for the shutout. Coach Heather Allen also cited good play from Allison Fannin, Katie Schwartz, Lacey McGowan and Holly Crawford. The boys won 4-1 with goals coming from Victor Murray, Matt McCrite, Robbie Zeider and Kyle Adams. Daniel Higginbotham had two assists and Brian Forero added one. Coach Shane Pulliam also cited good play from Zach Taylor, Andy DeBusk and Ryan Pugh.

Starr’s Mill played at Creekside last night after the paper went to press, while Whitewater played Fayette County and McIntosh played at Woodward Academy. Northgate is off until their games at Whitewater on Apr. 10.

East Coweta took on Tri-Cities on Wednesday night and both the boys and girls got wins. The boys won 4-3 (4-2 in penalty kicks). The win improves the Indians’ region record to 4-1. The Lady Indians (11-3, 4-1 region) won 11-0.
Danielle Dawson scored six goals, while Amber Wright and Andrea Dawson had two goals a piece and Chelsea Hise added one more. East Coweta will play at Paulding County tonight.
