Results mixed for local baseball teams

The majority of the local baseball teams had region games this week and the results, for most of the teams were good.

Northgate’s boys (8-0) got a 17-1 win over Westlake on Monday and got home runs from John Doolittle, Matt Gillis, Devin Johnson, Ryan Kovacs, and T.J. Jackson. The Vikings will play at Fayette County tomorrow at 5:30 p.m. and at Whitewater on Monday.

East Coweta (6-4) lost to Henry County 3-2 on Tuesday. The Indians got a good pitching performance from Rico Reid. Ben Inman drove in a run in the loss. East Coweta will host Whitewater tomorrow at 6 p.m.

Whitewater (8-3) defeated Westlake 8-3 on Wednesday and got two home runs from catcher Miles Head. It was the second straight region win for the Wildcats.

McIntosh (6-4) was handed their second consecutive region loss on Wednesday falling to Woodward Academy 5-3. Brent Hardy was the losing pitcher, giving up eight hits in four innings. Cameron Rich and John Riccitelli both had two hits and an RBI a piece, while Eric Weiss went 3-for-3 with two doubles and Nick Markhardt and Ben Barter each had a double. Brandon Harris was 1-for-2 with two runs scored. The Chiefs will play at Creekside tomorrow at 5 p.m. and will play at Riverwood Saturday at 1 p.m.

Starr’s Mill (1-6) rallied for three runs in the seventh and defeated Creekside 3-2 on Wednesday. Runs were driven in by Trent Freeman and Ken Jackson. Ed Cook got the win, going the distance and striking out 11 batters. The Panthers will play at Banneker tonight at 7 p.m. and will host Fayette County on Monday at 5:30 p.m.

Landmark Christian (3-2) got a 13-7 win over Bremen on Tuesday. Michael Leonard was the winning pitcher in relief. he was also the leading hitter for the afternoon, going 4-for-4 at the plate. Kyle Wren added three hits and Blake Austin and Tanner Bryan both had two hits each.

Sandy Creek (4-3) lost to Cass 9-2 earlier this week. They will host Cartersville tomorrow at 6 p.m. and will play at Haralson County on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
