Important region soccer games after the break

It is spring break, but the local soccer teams have a lot on their minds. They will all return to action next week and those games will be significant in region standings.

McIntosh’s boys and girls entered the break with games against Woodward Academy. The top ranked boys team (13-0-2) beat Woodward 1-0 last Thursday, while the fourth ranked Lady Chiefs (7-6) lost to the top ranked Woodward girls 2-0. McIntosh returns to action next Tuesday with games against Westlake and the Lady Chiefs will take on Westminster next Wednesday.

Starr’s Mill’s boys and girls faced Creekside in their last games before the break. The boys (9-1-3), currently ranked third, won 11-0 while the girls (8-2-1), ranked seventh, won 15-0. Starr’s Mill hosts Newnan, one of the state contenders from Class AAAAA, on Tuesday and will host Woodward on Friday.

Whitewater’s boys and girls, both ranked fifth in Class AAAA, got wins over Fayette County last Thursday. The boys (9-4) won 5-3 and followed it up with a 2-1 record in a tournament over the weekend. The Wildcats defeated Edmund Memorial , Okla. 1-0, beat Randolph County, Ala. 5-3 and lost 3-1 to Grissom, Ala. The Lady Wildcats (7-4-1) won 6-1. Whitewater returns from the break to play at Northgate on Tuesday. They will host St. Pius, ranked third in the girls division and seventh in the boys division, on Friday.

Fayette County will host Woodward Academy on Tuesday. The boys (7-4-1) will host Westlake on Thursday and the girls (1-7) will play the ninth ranked Lakeside-DeKalb team on Friday in the Cougar Classic.

Sandy Creek’s boys and girls will play at Carrollton on Wednesday and will host Cass on Friday.
