Teams are now into the meat of their region schedule and things are going well for some and tough for others.

The Fayette County Tigers have given an impressive show against Northgate and Starr’s Mill in recent days but have ended up on the short end of the stick. Fayette County had leads of 5-4 and 7-5 against the Vikings on Friday but lost 11-7. Mitch Ward drove in the first run for the Tigers with an RBI single in the second and hit a three run home run later in the game. On Monday, Fayette County lost to Starr’s Mill 4-2.

Whitewater’s Wildcats snapped Northgate’s 11 game winning streak on Monday evening with a 9-5 win. Down 5-2 in the fifth inning, the Wildcats got five runs in the inning and added two more in the sixth. Justin Carpenter (4-1) pitched his third complete game and, according to Coach Frank Dixon, got stronger as the game went on. Ryan Johnson went 4-for-4 at the plate with two singles, two doubles and three RBIs. Kevin Lewallen added two RBIs and two runs scored. Dixon was also impressed with the team’s strong defense. The Wildcats only made one error in the win. “At one point we had four seniors and five underclassmen on the field,” said Dixon. “That just speaks volumes about the program and where we are headed.”

Whitewater plays at Fayette County today and will play at Woodward Academy on Friday.

After two straight region losses in a six game losing streak, the Panthers have responded with three consecutive wins, all of them counting in the region standings. Last Friday, Starr’s Mill benefitted from a ton of walks issued by Banneker pitchers and won 22-2. On Monday, the Panthers handed Fayette County a 4-2 loss. Brian Fletcher was 2-for-3 with a home run and Trent Freeman was 2-for-3 with two doubles and an RBI.
Bryan Daniels got the win, struck out five and retired the first 15 batters he faced. Fayette’s David Buchanan got the loss. He struck out 11 batters. Josh Brock and Sean Finn each had a hit.

Starr’s Mill will take on McIntosh at home today at 5:30 p.m. and will play at Westlake on Friday at 5:30 p.m.

McIntosh has gone 2-1 in their last three games and the two wins came against region opponents. The Chiefs beat Creekside last Friday 21-3. Jarrod Parker and Johnny Peaden both pitched in the three inning game which featured a grand slam and four RBIs from Cameron Rich, four RBIs from Eric Weiss, three RBIs from Jake Tanis, two RBIs a piece from Nick Markhardt, Peaden and Andrew Austin. On Saturday, McIntosh lost to Riverwod 7-6. Austin was the losing pitcher and walked in the winning run. Tanis was 2-for-3 with a home run, a double and three RBIs. Rich and John Riccitelli both had two hits as well.
On Monday, McIntosh beat Banneker 10-0. Rich was the winning pitcher and Ben Barter was 2-for-2 with two home runs and three RBIs. Peaden and Weiss also had two hits a piece in the win.

After today’s game at Starr’s Mill, McIntosh will host Fayette County tomorrow at 7 p.m.

Sandy Creek played their second region game last Friday and lost to Cartersville 5-0. They played at Haralson County last night after the paper went to press and will play at Carrollton on Friday at 6 p.m.

Landmark Christian faced St. Francis last Friday and won 2-1. Tanner Bryant got the win in relief and Ryan Lloyd drove in both runs.

On Saturday, the War Eagles met Providence Christian and won 7-4. Michael Leonard was the winning pitcher and Trey Strickland went 2-for-3 at the plate. Landmark is 9-2 overall and 4-2 in the region.
