The popular winged sprint cars of the O’Reilly Auto Parts United Sprint Car Series Asphalt Thunder tour will headline the first “Firecracker 150” event scheduled for this Saturday, June 30 at 7 p.m. at Senoia Raceway in Senoia, Ga. This Saturday night’s event will feature the world’s fastest and most powerful short track race cars, plus stock car racing, bicycle racing and the return of spectator racing to Senoia Raceway. The event also kicks off the South Metro’s Independence Day holiday week with a professionally choreographed patriotic Fireworks show just after dark. The event will include an action-packed racing program for the outlaw sprint cars, including test and tune hot laps, time trials, the Lucas Oil Power Dash, the qualifying heat races and main event(s) for the 700-horsepower, 130-mph O’Reilly USCS winged sprint cars. The racing card also includes qualifying heat races for the Iceman Limited Late Model class, Sportsman, Street Stock and Mini Stock racing divisions. In addition there will be a huge professional fireworks celebration of our Nation’s independence. This night of family entertainment also includes Bicycle Racing for the kids in three age groups (6 and under, 7-9 years and 10-13 years of age) with trophies and prizes awarded in each age group. An additional division of competition has been added for this Holiday weekend special event. A “Run What Ya’ Brung” style of Spectator Racing returns to Georgia’s fastest 3/8 mile paved oval on June 30th. Spectators are invited to enter their cars for a one-lap shootout around the speedway against another competitor in a tournament style pairing. The excitement begins when two cars will line-up side-by-side and take off from a standing start to race one lap around the 3/8 mile paved oval back to the finish line with the winner advancing to the next round and the loser being eliminated. The competition will continue until all but one driver has been eliminated. A top prize of $200 is possible along with a trophy to the winner. The pit gates will open at 3 p.m. Grandstands open at 5 p.m. and racing action will begin at 7 p.m. The Senoia Raceway is located three miles West of Senoia on Georgia Highway 16. 82.
