High school golfers from around the country battled for the national title at the Brunswick Golf Plantation’s course in Calabash, N.C., last month.

One of only three freshmen in the field, McIntosh High School’s Austin Barreras finished in sixth place. He received All-American status from the National High School Coaches Association as a result of his high finish.

All participants competed in a put-off to determine who was the best high school putter. The putt was from over 60 feet away and over a ridge to a downhill cup.

Barreras won the title and the 2007 championship trophy when his ball hit the hole and came to rest within three feet of the cup in the final match.
