The Lady War Eagles recorded their first victory of the season Tuesday against region opponent Our Lady of Mercy, 18-3 in five innings.

Senior pitcher Laura Cooper got her first start of year, recording six strikeouts and only one walk while facing 22 batters. She also hit a home run.

The Lady War Eagles' offense was just as impressive, with every girl on the team crossing the plate at least once.

The Lady Eagles faced two non-region opponents last week, falling 6-3 against Athens Christian in the season opener and 5-3 to Mt. Zion. And even though they did not record a win, they had strong outings in both appearances.

Freshmen pitcher Amanda Chastain pitched both games, facing 65 batters in 14 innings. She struck out 16 and allowed six walks. The offense recorded 20 hits in the two games but couldn't generate the runs needed to get a victory.

Stellar defense by Senior Emily Polgardi and Freshman Chandler Greer and the hot bats of Senior Kate Smith and Sophomore Hailey McManus kept the Eagles in the game till the very end.
