Starr’s Mill volleyball team stays undefeated, beats state’s top teams in tough weekend tournamentTue, 08/28/2007 - 12:53pm

The volleyball teams from Starr’s Mill and McIntosh faced off against some of the top teams in the state on Saturday. The Lady Panthers did very well, going undefeated on the day, while McIntosh went 2-3. Starr’s Mill (12-0), ranked first in Class AAAA, defeated Wesleyan, ranked first in Class A/AA (25-17, 21-25, 25-23), Lassiter (25-17, 25-18), Blessed Trinity, ranked second in Class AAA (25-14, 22-25, 25-20), Sequoyah (25-6, 25-20) and Marist, ranked second in Class AAAA (25-15, 25-22). The Lady Panthers will play at Marist on Thursday evening. McIntosh’s Lady Chiefs (6-3), ranked fourth in Class AAAA, beat eighth-ranked Jonesboro (25-23, 25-20) and seventh-ranked Woodward Academy (15-25, 25-8, 25-22) but lost to third-ranked St. Pius (25-22, 25-18), Northview (25-15, 21-25, 25-20), ranked first in Class AAAAA, and Columbus (25-18, 23-25, 22-25), which is ranked first in Class AAA. McIntosh will host Dutchtown and Landmark Christian, which is ranked seventh in Class A/AA on Thursday. Whitewater (10-2) got wins over Union Grove (25-15, 25-12), Dutchtown (25-13 and 25-17) and Eagle’s Landing Christian Academy (25-20, 25-20) last Thursday.
