At most, only about 20 seconds is played before it stops.

Cyclist, the mp3 file is "buffering". That means that as parts of it are loaded into memory and then those parts play. When that's finished it goes and gets more of the file and repeats the process.

To get around that click on the "download audio file" link and select the "Open" option. That will download the entire file and then automatically call your audio player, mine is Windows Media Player, and the file will play start to finish.

Because you're opening the file and not saving it, it won't create a file on your HD taking up space. It's being stored in memory. When you close your audio player, the file goes away.

Thanks for the help! I thought "buffering" as well and waited for it to re-establish when the rest of the file arrived. But that never happened. Just curious, are you just executing the download and letting it play? Also, "download audio file" is that a right click on the file execute button or someplace else?

"are you just executing the download and letting it play?"

Not exactly. Windows knows, via association, what to do with an ".mp3" file type. So Windows itself is executing your audio player software and directing it to use the file you opened.

"Associations" in Windows are used to associate files types with executable programs. In my case a file with an ".mp3" extension is associated with Windows Media Player. All files in Windows work this way.

F.Y.I. All file types, the ".xxx" after a file name, must be registered with Microsoft in order to be Windows compliant.

You can associate any file type you want with any executable program you want. In other words I could name my MS Word documents as "filename.123". As long as I tell Windows that files with the extension of ".123" are to be opened with MS Word, Windows will take care of the rest.

Most people open MS Word and then open for the document they want to work on. Another way to to that is to use Windows Explorer and just double click on the file you want. Windows knows to open a ".doc" file with MS Word. The same thing is what happens when you "Open" and ".mp3" file type.

"download audio file" is that a right click on the file execute button or someplace else?"

Left click the link and you will see three options. "Open", "Save" and "Cancel". Left click on "Open".

As usual, it was a user problem. Bad, when you mentioned about the options it dawned on me that I was attempting to execute via the wrong button. I was using the start button right after "Play:". Try it and see if you get the same results. Anyway, I'm listening to the podcast. Many thanks!!!!!

I sure hope FCHS makes the playoffs. Those young men have worked so hard.

Try refreshing your browser and starting it again. I didn't have any problems. Please do let us know if you encounter this problem again. You can email Mike at mboylan@thecitizen.com or me at ebaldwin@thecitizen.com. If you keep having an issue, we want to know so we can see what's going on. It may have something to do with which browser your using. Thanks for the heads up.

Hey Cyclist,

I'm running Firefox on a wireless network hooked up to cable internet. Were you able to download the file and play it? I use iTunes, and tried downloading and importing the file there and it worked.

Let me know.

Thanks

I was trying to execute via the button after "Play:" instead of of the other. When I found the "error of my ways" I was able to connect and enjoyed their analysis. I look forward for more of this!!!!!

For what it's worth I downloaded it and played the file just fine. I did have some severe audio distortions though. For some reason Kevin's voice downloaded with some kind of a New York twang to it. The scary part was that he sounded like a Yankees fan. Shocked

I'm sure that the tech guys at the Citizen will fix that glitch. Smiling
