One of the hottest softball teams in the state is the Starr’s Mill Lady Panthers. Four Starr’s Mill players had at least two RBIs against Westlake: Ashley Clontz (1-for-3, three RBI, two runs scored), Paige Peurifoy (1-for-2, three RBI), Tiffany Taylor (2-for-3, two RBI, two runs scored) and Chesley Savage (1-for-1, two RBI). Aly Rosen (2-for-2, three runs scored) and Heather Walker (2-for-2, three runs scored) also were major contributors. Peurifoy pitched a three-inning no-hitter for the win. She struck out nine. Starr’s Mill traveled to Georgia Tech on Saturday to take on Union Grove in a match-up between the fifth-ranked teams in the state’s two largest classifications (Union Grove is ranked fifth in Class AAAAA). Considering the competition, Peurifoy turned in one of the best pitching performances of her career, throwing a four-hit, complete-game shutout, including six strikeouts. Clontz shined at the plate, as well, going 3-for-3 with one RBI and two runs scored. She was a home run away from hitting for the cycle. Kayla Folds and Hannah Braswell combined to pitch a one-hit shutout. Folds earned the victory, striking out four, allowing one hit and walking one in four innings. Braswell struck out four, walked three and gave up no hits in three innings. Second baseman Andrea Dalton stood out at the plate for the Lady Patriots, going 4-for-4 with two RBI. She also made a key play in the field, turning a double play. Other Creek players who contributed at the plate were Megan Kallatsa (2-for-4, one RBI) and Meagon Sitton (2-for-4). Hailey Williams and Blair Byrom (one RBI) also had hits. login to post comments |
