Eisenhower letter regarding Robert E. Lee

President Dwight Eisenhower wrote the following letter in response to one he received dated August 1, 1960, from Leon W. Scott, a dentist in New Rochelle, New York. Scott’s letter reads:

America was founded as a Constitutional Federal Republic composed of a Limited Federal Government and Sovereign States. Nations must evolve to survive. However the problem is they always evolve too much. All change is not for the better. World history records the death of every former empire. Nations evolve to the point that they stray from the foundations that they were built upon and decline until they cease to exist. America has evolved too far and is following the same path to destruction that the Roman empire followed 2000 years ago. The only anomaly is the South's fight during 1861-1865 to retain Constitutional Government. The Confederate States of America fell battling under the banner of "States Rights". Confederate principles are 1. Limited Constitutional Federal Government 2. States Rights 3. Christian-Judaic values. Excess immigration (excess numbers of slaves) and destruction of family values destroyed the Roman Empire and immigration (illegal and excess legal) and destruction of family values are destroying the American Empire. Wal-Mart's recent decision to join and support homosexuals as part of their diversity program underscores the decline of family values. They refuse to adopt Confederate principles and values as part of that diversity program.

Keep in mind that the discussion below occurs during the war, August 5th, 1861, between Semmes and a Captain Hillyar, of the British vessel “Cadmus”. It is as good a summary as I’ve seen from a well-educated Southerner of the period who is stating his reasons for fighting.

I challenge each parent in Fayette County to let your voices be heard! Send letters to the Board of Education. Demand to know why they've let a GA School of Excellence fall to such a low level. How can the administration of this school allow something such as a t-shirt to escalate racial tension to the extent that cops wearing SWAT shirtsare brought in to stand guard in the halls? The students were terrified to see SWAT walking up and down their halls. I would be scared if it happened in my building!! If the administration hasn't been trained to handle such events in a more professional manner, why are they allowed in leadership roles in our schools? The assitant principles in this school have been trained or scared into turning their heads when it comes to racial controversy. You walk in this school any day of the week and you will find 7 out of 10 in ISS to be white kids that have been pushed to limits by black kids. Let the whites complain about something the blacks have done, and its shoved under the rug until the situation escalates to the point the white kid can't take it any more. AND who gets discipline - the white kids!!! The blacks are still out among the student population stirring up trouble!

While traffic has always been a concern in PTC as it is elsewhere, with the advent of the TDK Highway turning our city into merely a place to be passed through for tens of thousands of people from somewhere else, I predict that within 10 years, traffic calming will become THE political issue in PTC. If you live here in 10 years, here is a menu of the many things you will see our political leaders considering. Google them...get to know them..they are our future.

Getting kids to school safely is one of the most fundamental transportation questions parents face. In 1969, according to the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), about half of all children ages five to 18 either walked or biked to school. In 2001, 85 percent of all children between five and 15 were chauffeured to school by either a parent or a bus driver. This change has had a disastrous effects on the morning commute and on the sense of community around schools.

We live in strange times.

In a few short weeks, the Republicans will lose control of the House of Representatives. They will most likely retain control of the United States Senate. The Republican Revolution of 1994 is, for all intents and purposes, dead. An unusual coalition of intellectuals, fiscal conservatives, religious conservatives and middle class mothers are abandoning the Republican party this year in such numbers as to make a Republican hold on the House untenable.

I was just reading the AJC headline about the tragic air crash in a residential area of Stockbridge: "Crash Shakes Airport's Neighbors." From the article: "In the past 45 years, subdivisions have cropped up, putting some houses yards from the end of the runway at the corner of Miller's Mill and Kitty Hawk roads."

Blacks are a part of southern heritage as much as whites whether you like it or not. I'm not talking about the slavery part either.

Has anyone noticed Lynn Westmoreland has voted against EVERY animal bill that's been presented before congress since he's been there? Sure he says he likes animals--even has a dog--but that doesn't mean much when given the opportunity to help them.

Jim Steinbach has touched many lives in Fayette County and left his imprint in many ways. I just wanted to let his many friends know that Jim unexpectantly left us today. Right now his funeral is tentatively scheduled for Tuesday.
