I have, for many years, been overwhelmingly disguted with one important issue in our society today. There are millions of people who rely on Medicaid programs, Welfare, and food stamps to support their families. Many children are raised in poverty, living off the government, because Mom and Dad can't support the eight children they have. Or perhaps Mom has five kids, each with a different father... And she must stay home and drain our tax dollars because she can't work. Whatever the circumstances may be, these people who procreate at alarmingly irresponsible rates really test my patience. They generally don't use birth control, have numerous children, and head down to the Health Department for a handout. They know Uncle Sam will pick up the tab. Now don't get me wrong, I know some people need help sometimes, which is fine. But many have no responsibility for themselves or their families, and live off the system throughout their lives, only to have their own children repeat the cycle. Or what about the people who have children and are abusive or neglectful to them. Perhaps they never really wanted children in the first place, so they use their children as punching bags... Or maybe, Mom and Dad are criminals, and the child will have no hope of ever having a normal family life with their parents locked up for a lifetime...

I don't get it! If the state inspectors said that the plant was clean and allowed it to reopen, then what are all of the complaints now about? Is it something that happened to them when it wasn't clean and they just want to keep it alive for lawsuit purposes, or are people still getting sick from residue, etc.? What is going on NOW to assure people around here that the place is safe? Can't an official statement be made to that effect by the state? Boy, if we treat other serious happenings like we have this one, the USA is really headed for trouble if the terrorists strike.

Have you guys given any thought to getting a petition going to DEMAND the FCBOE tell you who and how many and the circumtances of each out of county child that is attending White water, or any of the schools here for that matter? There is power in numbers.

This one just blows me away. This guy Jim Stinson – whoever in the heck he is – writes a trashy letter to the editor about Steve Brown. That’s his right, sure thing. But the part that gets me is that this Stinson guy openly admits in a blog on this site that the quotes he attributed to Brown weren’t Brown’s. Stinson says he was assigning the quotes to Brown because he “associates” those words with Brown. Isn’t that special.

Today I went by Kmart in PTC at lunch to pick up a few things. They had 2 registers open. A lot of people run out on their lunch *hour* to pick up things so they don't have to do it on their way home. I was the 4th person in line at #2 then the rude girl calls back "I'm closed". No "Sorry, could you go the next register" or "Could you let everyone behind you know that I am closed after you". WTF? I then went over to "Customer Service" to check out and asked why they only have 1 checkout open with so many people in the store. I was ignored. Then the lady proceeded to sniff my air freshener, comment on 2 other things I was purchasing, then ask me if I would like to pay for today's purchase with my Sears card. Did you not just see me run my debit card through the machine???

Anyone that knows the name of the 30-something child on a bicycle that threw a container of water through the window of a Fayette County school bus, hitting the bus driver in the face, endangering 50-plus students on board, please call Fayette County Board of Education. Also, we the citizens would like to thank the PTC police department for NOT coming to the aid of that bus driver. What is wrong with this picture? I have children that ride the school bus and it upset me to observe what happened. If the bus driver did something to upset the 30-something, then he should have called the Fayette County Board of Education and complained. In my eyes, I feel this was an assault on that bus driver, and that 30-something needs to have his bicycle taken away from him, and some therapy on anger management.

I’m tired. I took the job I have many years ago because the company was known as a good company to work for and took care of its people.

This evening, there was a forum for candidates in the State School Superintendent's race. The candidates had been solicited to appear and had agreed to participate in July. On Friday, Kathy Cox's office informed the sponsor of the forum (Georgia Arts Education Association and Arts Leadership League of Georgia) that she would not be in attendance. The excuse given at that time was that she had "a boe emergency". (???)

Friday night's game between Starr's Mill and Whitewater was one of the best I have seen in my eight years covering sports in this area. I assume that if you were in the crowd Friday night, you would agree with that assessment, regardless of which side you are on.

It’s time for us to stop being Republicans and Democrats, and start being Americans. There are faults in both parties. In 1994 the Democratic lead Congress’ disapproval was 75%. Now, just 12 years later, the Republican lead Congress’ disproval is 75%. There are many conclusions that can be drawn from those numbers, and equally as many excuses made. The bottom line is that our party blindness has put in this situation. People aren’t good or bad because they are Republican, neither are they good or bad because they are Democrat. It’s time for us to be true patriots and take a moment to learn about the candidates and educate ourselves on the issues. True Americans are willing to split their ticket on Election Day. I’m the Vice Chair of the Coweta County Democratic Party. I’m voting for a Republican or two, so can you vote for some of each. On November 7th, vote for the person not the party.
