School Board Meeting last night..anyone tell what was said?

Can anyone who went tell us what was said, or asked, and what the response was from the School Board?
Did anyone ask why the kids from North Fayette along the Clayton county line are bussed all the way to Sandy Creek and not sent to Fayette County High which is much closer? Why the children were pulled instead from Lakemont to fill up Fayette County High?
Did anyone's suggestions sound like they were going to be considered by the board?

At the risk of further stirring the pot ....

T. Dixon, the running back from Whitewater High School, has moved back in to the county. He is renting a house in the Sandy Creek High School district that belongs to one of the Whitewater coaches.

So, he is back in the county but in the Sandy Creek district. Since WHS is overcrowded and people are being moved, and Sandy Creek is under capacity, I just thought you might want to know.

I was told, and I haven't checked any further, that Dixon is one of 5 siblings. His Mother was living with another Mother with a lot of kids as well. They were evicted. A private school in Atlanta took in 2 or 3 of the younger sisters. Dixon is suppose to be living in a house off Ginger cake.

if they were evicted cause they couldn't pay the 1st time....who is paying for the rent on Gingercake?

I'm sure the coaches at WHS were told by the school board this player wasn't going to be eligible to play football because of the ruckus being made over him, so they "fixed" it. The question now is why isn't he playing for SCHS? I'm sure there will be more behind the scenes action and he'll still be at WHS come next year. No matter about the kids that are going to have to move from Whitewater to another school due to redistricting. Football players like him take precidence over other children.

he keeps going tooo.... and playing forrr... WWHS..just my thoughts. I have lost all faith. Somehow ..truth.. and most of the FCBOE don't seem to go in the same sentence. Though, some who work there are nice.

So, no, he won't still be at WHS next year.

Submitted by GloriaG on Tue, 10/31/2006 - 3:02pm.

but if he wasn't a senior he'd still be there next year. That's the way it works.

Submitted by IMNSHO on Tue, 10/31/2006 - 9:21am.

It is still against the rules for him to be playing for WHS, if he is in the SCHS district and attending WHS on special permission. Just like my kid couldn't be in the FCHS district and attend SCHS and play sports. It's just the rules. And they're not being enforced.

So, we now know that (a) the rules were being broken and the BOE condoned it, (b) the rules are still being broken and the BOE condones it. And how about that coach! How charitable of him to find that kid a place to live in Fayette County. What a great example he sets for our kids! The whole BOE, the superintendent, and anyone else who has pulled strings for this to happen should be ashamed. I thought the BOE was (rightfully) in the process of prosecuting a family for submitting a false affadavit. Guess it's okay for the residency rules to be applied selectively, huh? It all stinks like rotten pumpkin. But hey, Happy Halloween to all out there. Gotta go take the kids on the annual hunt for dark chocolate.

Remember to set a good example and let the kids eat the dark chocolate.

It was given to them, not you.

but I don't think they make you transfer out if you started the year somewhere else, especially if you don't take the bus. I know there are the rumors of him living out of county at the beginning of the year, but if he was cleared there to start the year and is now living elsewhere in the county, it is doubtful they would make him change schools.

Also, isn't there something in the whole "new district" thing that kids can stay at the high school they are currently at as long as they don't take the bus?

Anyway it would be kind of cruel to tell a kid to transfer to a new school with about five months left in his senior year - and I speak from experience.

We have been waiting for you to look in to this for six weeks or more. You have yet to discover anything.

Can we get you to run for public office, get on the school board, or be a reporter for the paper?

should be "EXTREMELY" chastised if not fined/fired for knowingly breaking the rules.

Great examples our schools are teaching our children.

It would be a learning experience for all involved. The kids would learn that breaking the rules have consequences and the other coaches in the county would get a message loud an clear as well.

Is that you? I think it is.

Submitted by head_ragg on Tue, 10/31/2006 - 4:20pm.

NO one wishes him bad, but it just seems that the school board moves heaven and earth for some...and others...they can't be bothered over. Some get a lot of attention, some get none. Some adults work hard and pay taxes, others live on those taxes.

I would like to see the BoE make an example of the coaches and other administrators that have allowed this to happen.

You're going to be hard pressed to convince me that the school principal and members of the BoE didn't know that rules were being broken.

No one wants to see the kid himself even be the focus....it's the arrogance of the school, the team, the family, and the coaches at WHS and the double standard of the BOE, especially when redistricting is moving 'legit' kids!

You do not have to transfer schools if you are a senior and you move (and Dixon is). I think the intention is to allow kids to finish with their friends and schoolmates.

I think the problem here is that he was not in the county at all - which is a bigger problem - until last weekend.

Since he now lives in the county he will just be required to provide his own transportation and stay out of trouble if he is on special permission.

I am not trying to justify him attending when he lived in Clayton County - which he did. I am just sayiong that at this point - he is allowed to attend Fayette County Schools. In my humble opinion, he should NOT have attended WHS while living in Clayton County during the entire football season thus far this year.

Now, do you want to talk about the others living in that same house?? Look in to that Michael.

GOOD POINT ON THE NORTH FAYETTE NEIGHBORHOODS THAT ARE RIDING TO SANDY CREEK HS. DO YOU HAVE SPECIFIC INFO TO IDENTIFY THESE NEIGHBORHOODS? LOOKING AT GROWTH PATTERNS, SCHS WILL NEED TO REDUCE GROWTH SOON TO AVOID FILLING UP, AND I'M NOT FAMILIAR WITH N FAYETTE WELL ENOUGH TO PROPOSE THIS. THANKS!
