wulfman: Preachers

wulfman's picture

Anyone remember when preachers had to actually work a full time job and perform their church duties after work?

I wonder if the government suddenly passed a law that limited a preacher earnings to $10,000.00 or less, how many preachers would there actually be left?

"Br-r-r! Where did global warming go?"
(Boston Globe)

THE STARK headline appeared just over a year ago. "2007 to be 'warmest on record,'" BBC News reported on Jan. 4, 2007. Citing experts in the British government's Meteorological Office, the story announced that "the world is likely to experience the warmest year on record in 2007," surpassing the all-time high reached in 1998. - - - - -

But a funny thing happened on the way to the planetary hot flash: Much of the planet grew bitterly cold. Shocked

TyroneConfidential: Notice to all Tyrone Businesses

The Town Council voted in Executive Session January 24 to refuse to discuss repeal of the Old Council’s damaging Zoning Ordinances that illegally deleted your property uses. This action was not made public at the meeting or in the minutes. In essence, the lawyers were given the go ahead to defend these ordinances as far as they could go. What ever happened to the election campaign promises?

keithm40: East Fayette Bypass

Did anyone have a chance to attend the meeting on the 31st? If so, do you have an update on the progress of this projec

Dawn Hassel: Vote for Ron Paul for President

Ron Paul, the 18 yr Senator from Texas has the most important message for America that no other candidate mentions. Ron Paul supports a return to using gold reserves to back the US dollar. Since Pres. Nixon took the US dollar off the gold standard in 1971, government spending has been uncontrollable. The dollar has been losing value. Just look at the rising prices of homes, groceries, cars, clothes and everything else. Gold has value, paper doesn’t. A gold backed dollar would restrict government spending until the debts were paid. Pay your debts then you have more money to spend. It’s as simple as that. The US can’t pay for wars, border control, health care, social programs, etc. with a valueless piece of paper and control inflation. The US is headed for bankruptcy, a collapse of the monetary system and devaluation of the dollar. Everything you, I or the government does depends on a stable dollar. All the other candidates support printing more useless dollars as a solution to jobs, recession and over-all economic prosperity.

sageadvice: Bishop Epps

I find Epps rather odd with his seemingly constant complaining about being overworked and with constant requirements for support!

The Crime Dog: Cal and crew: East Fayette questions

The Crime Dog's picture

The old Cal I know, gumshoe reporter Cal, would've already had these questions answered in previous coverage.

1. Something smells funny 'bout the board geezers wanting to repurpose East Fayette for alternative school. What would they do with the extra room at LaFayette???

The Crime Dog: East Fayette suggestion; request for The Citizen

The Crime Dog's picture

If East Fayette parents want a new school building, let's give them a new one!

Send them to Inman along with their teachers. That insures educational continuity and they get rewarded for sticking with that old rotten building.

Git Real: Village Seafood Market

Git Real's picture

To whomever it was that came on the Citizen and recommended eating at the Village Seafood Market, all I have to say is thank you. I went there for lunch today with one of the little gitlets and I had the fried shrimp and fried oysters. It was outstanding. I look forward to buying some fresh seafood from there and taking Mrs. Git there real soon.

I have to admit that I am somewhat confused by the consternation in the Republican Party over the imminent nomination of John McCain.

Whatever became of the secretive investigation that was being conducted by an outside firm involving a Peachtree City employee? I recall the city hired this outside firm.

ethicalgovernment: Tyrone Dust Bunnies

I see Tyrone's council ladies Grace Caldwell and Gloria Furr have taken their environmental advocacy show on the road. They're now targeting the quarry on Buffington Road in Fulton county for excessive dust emissions. What's next, are they going to ask Delta to stop flying over Tyrone because the planes emit CO2?

Git Real: Will Freedom Survive The Technology Advancements?

tennfan1: I am not a criminal

It saddens me to see people label teenagers as pot-smoking, promiscuous ne'er-do-wells. I am none of those, and yet people become so brazen as to label all of us as such. Many of the people I know are well on their way to become independent, productive citizens. Nearly all of us will become citizens not unlike yourselves one day. Consider who you were in high school and who you are now.

sageadvice: Water Crisis, or not?

Most of the republicans (Sonny, Shipp, party members, etc., say no--there isn't one.
I assume that is what they mean when they say to let the people water their lawns and shrubbery and fill their home pools.

sageadvice: Pan Fried Baloney & difficult frogs!

I happened to have been born and raised on a large farm during the start of the great world depression. It lasted until I was about ready for high school. The Germans, Italians, and the Japanese--along with a few smaller fish, got us cranked up enough to start leaving that odd time behind.

JeffC,

I have to commend you on your many replies and insightful contributions to the many topics this little newspaper website produces. I am even more appreciative of how you have handled my many taunts and slurs I've made against your dear old Dad. You've proven that you are thick skinned by dismissively and astutely replying to my comments with civility and an occaisional witty retort and sarcasm, which of course, I love.

The mother of all sporting events, the Super Bowl, is only two days away. Some pundits say the undefeated New England Patriots will win in a blowout; others feel the New York Giants will stun the Patriots.

Main Stream: ANN COULTER CAMPAIGNING FOR HILLARY

Main Stream's picture

I guess miracles really do happen - I'm a believer now. I watched Ann Coulter on Fox News last night.... she said she'll campaign for Hillary, if McCain wins the nomination. The 2008 election is getting very interesting. (BTW - Nitpicker...how do you like Ann Coulter's legs?)

Did you make it to the open house/question meeting for the East Fayette Bypass last evening? Your thoughts??

I was working and unable to go, but I do have the informational sheet that was available. Haven't had a chance to read through it yet. Just wondering what you may have come away with.

The animal Gary Hilton pleaded guilty today and received a life sentence.

We can only hope when he faces the other murder charges he will receive the death penalty.

NUK_1: Berkeley's Mayor/Council...and you thought PTC's was bad?

NUK_1's picture

The lunatic beyond-leftward city council of Berkeley is back to their usual "we approve of free speech, as long as it's approved by us first" approach. They are running the Marine recruiting office out of the city by sanctioning and legislating a law to endorse picketing by a fringe group called Code Pink.

sageadvice: New Police Chief for PTC

No, I don't think we have one yet, I was just wondering why not!

Old Chief gone about a month or more now--and the Manager must have known maybe a month or two before that--yet, no one is here.

Being a 79" grad @ JCHS I hope you can turn that program around. The school has seen very few winning seasons. Those being the late 90's and mid 70's.
