Tyrone Dust Bunnies

I see Tyrone's council ladies Grace Caldwell and Gloria Furr have taken their environmental advocacy show on the road. They're now targeting the quarry on Buffington Road in Fulton county for excessive dust emissions. What's next, are they going to ask Delta to stop flying over Tyrone because the planes emit CO2?

The main gaseous components that make up exhaust emissions of a turbine (jet) engine are NOx (oxides of nitrogen) CO (carbon monoxide), and HC (hydrocarbons).

Actually this is a major health problem-I have looked at pollution studies and our area is in a area labeled dangerous due to toxic emmissions from industry. Whatever council can do will be a start to helping our environment. Lots of kids around here have severe asthma and I believe these emmissions are a contributing factor. I'm all for cleaner air-wish everyone put this as a priority on their agendas. Thanks council!

"What's next, are they going to ask Delta to stop flying over Tyrone because the planes emit CO2?"

Snella, you give off more hot air and obnoxious gasses than any air plane ever could!

No co2 but they stick up my windshield with some kind of gooey liquid drops! Floating around trying to land!
The stuff makes crap stick to ones shoes and it tracks black sticky stuff into the house!

that's not from Delta, that is just stuff Smella throws into the air ever so often, hopping some of it will stick! Don't worry, it's less and less as time goes by.

Tyrones new government spends thousands of dollars revising the town charter and here's one of the big changes: "To regulate the emission of smoke, dust (new), sand (new) or other exhaust which pollutes the air". How did we survive as a town withhout regulating dust and sand?

If you have a cleaning person please warn them that dust is no longer allowed in town or you'll be having this conversation; "You just don't dust like you used to and you're fired. I'm sorry, it's not you, it's not me, it's the town!"

Suddenly the "Pledge" of Allegiance takes on a whole new meaning.

Tyrone, Georgia - Dust free by charter!

It seems I recall, during the past groups tenure, a house filled with asbestos torn down with no protection for the public, development on a landfill, even built a ball field in the wetlands.

For your information, the #1 purpose of government is the protection of the public’s safety, health, and welfare. Nice to have elected officials that take seriously their responsibilities.

Silica is found in granite.

Silica from occupational sources is a major danger.

The most common form of the disease, chronic silicosis can take years to develop, but much shorter exposures at higher concentrations can result more deadly types of the disease. Acute silicosis, can occur after a single heavy dose or brief exposures to very high concentration of silica dust. Silica that has been inhaled into the lung, collects and causes inflammation. The body reacts and creates fibrotic nodules around the trapped silica particles. As these hard nodules grow and collect together, breathing becomes very difficult.

Often workers will recall being blanketed with dust while working at a particular job or cutting through something. they recall dust so thick they couldn't see. These are very dangerous environments.

Several years ago then-secretary of Labor Robert B. Reich began a national public education campaign, If It's Silica, It's Not Just Dust, to prevent Silicosis in US workers.

Alfred Munzer, M.D., of the American Lung Association, described some of the most serious effects of being overexposed to silica dust. "Silicosis is an insidious, debilitating lung disease that robs people of their breath and eventually limits their mobility and makes them dependent on supplemental oxygen," said Munzer. "Cigarette smoking only aggravates the effects of silica dust and worsens a patient's condition."

I'm glad someone cares about the air our children breath! There are several quarries around here. They mine granite, which is one of the hardest substances there are. When they dynamite it, which we all hear, it gives off a dust. That dust is filled with little shards of granite that fill the air. Those little shards are like little shards of glass, and I don't need to tell you what breathing it could do to your lungs.

Oh, but they will wet it down and keep it wet so it can't blow away!

Sure they will!
