Mike Boylan spent the first 17 years of his life in Beverly, Mass., a small city north of Boston. He has been a life-long Red Sox fan. John Thompson spent his youth in Denver, Colo. and spent many summers at minor league Denver Bears games.

Canongate juniors shine in tour championship

Canongate Golf Clubs is proud to announce the winners of the 2007 Canongate Junior Tour Championship held Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 13-14 at Canongate Golf Club in Sharpsburg. Last Friday night the Landmark War Eagles saw their six year region winning streak snapped in front of a stunned home crowd as they loss to fifth ranked Fellowship Christian Academy 24-17.

The Fayette County Tigers are steamrolling through Region 2-AAAA.

No. 9-ranked Fayette whipped Westlake 37-6 Friday night for its seventh consecutive victory.

Sandy Creek stuns Carrollton 28-14

Braxton Lane is one of the most dynamic playmakers in the state.

He can dominate a game with the ball in his hands, which he did Friday, catching eight passes for 233 yards and two touchdowns in Sandy Creek’s stunning 28-14 victory over No. 3-ranked Carrollton.

The area volleyball tournaments have already begun and a number of local teams are hoping to propel their way to the state tournament with their play this week.

Spring Hill Elementary recently held a ribbon cutting ceremony for their brand new track in preparation for their fourth annual Turkey Trot. The official ribbon cutter was Mike Vigil from Allen Vigil Ford (official sponsor of the Turkey Trot).

The All-Region 6-AAA selections were recently announced, and seven Sandy Creek players were selected to the team.
